Poll results; new poll; FYC!

The results of the latest poll either indicate that much of Blog Cabins' readership is not a member of the Large Association of Movie Blogs...or the magic is gone from the LAMMY awards, with just 57% of the vote excited for the ceremony in one fashion or another. Hard to say which, really, not without knowing who the 26% of voters were that selected "not caring,""curious," and "in the dark." Though, really, the ones I'm concerned about are the 3 individuals who selected "full of hate" towards the awards. Care to come forward? (Castor, if you're one of them, I get it.)

I'm in the midst of trudging through the second Transformers film (just for shits and giggles, and because I get curious to see just how bad some films are), and it's got me wondering how much interest you have in the third edition of the Baysplosions epic. New poll wants a simple Yes or No from you.

Also, for those that might not see it on the LAMB, I had to share with you the For Your Consideration ad that I made for the event. I wasn't coming up with anything brilliantly funny (some have been great for this), and I didn't want to do anything that just put a bunch of text over an image from a recent movie (too many have done this), and putting JCVD's face on one of these is an awesome idea that's already been taken, so....I went with a (hopefully) classy and designery one. Made in MS Paint, of course!

Poll results; new poll

The people have spoken, and the people are...mostly mixed/up in the air as to what the best film of 2011 (so far) is. Source Code was the winner, but this was one of the closer votes we've had here for these polls, as we have a 9-8-7 finish for the top three vote getters, with Hanna (my choice!) and Rango rounding out the group.

You ought to know this already, but the 2011 LAMMYs have begun! I have a strange feeling this year, as it's the first time I'm not actually running the show, but since I still have the passwords everything, I can still keep up with what's going on and all that. Anyway, that'll just leave me more time to campaign for BC this year, right?

New poll wants to know how you're feeling about this year's awards - ready to fight more than ever for a coveted prize, or have you grown disenfranchised? (Or do you somehow not know what the LAMMYs are? If so, click this or the image below for the recap of last year's awards.) Let me know...

A tight three-horse (bad term, considering) race for the Biggest Snubee of the Ladies of the 90s Tournament, but Miss Trout Pout herself has the sole claim to the title, besting Drew Barrymore and Catherine Zeta-Jones, in a 16-14-12 finish.

Poor Bridgette Wilson...not a single vote. Even Scrunchy Face Zellweger did better. Ouch.

New poll is up and is a simple one: which 2011 wide release is the best of the year (so far)? My mind was made up for me last night, but I can't say that I've disliked really any in the last few months, with Paul being the lowest (I think) at 2.5 stars/lambs.

Is it simply a question on quantity winning out? Not to say that Stephen King stories haven't been adapted into some great movies (Stand By Me, Shawshank, The Green Mile, Misery, etc.), but I was expecting a slightly closer race than this. Granted, he only received 31% of the vote to win the poll, but with 8 choices, that was more than enough to handily take it. Philip K. Dick nabbed second with 17%, and "other" took third with 11%. So, Other voters, who were your picks?

I went with Elmore Leonard - some great movies have beenmade of his stories (Get Shorty, Jackie Brown, 3:10 to Yuma), but I've even enjoyed some crappy movies made from his works, including The Big Bounce and Touch (you win a prize if you're the other person in the world who saw that).

New poll is about - what else? - the Ladies of the 90s Tournament, going on right now (and for the next few weeks). There were several names thrown out as ladies that were left off the bracket, some who could be argued to even be amongst the higher tier of seeds. Alas, cuts were made, some were forgotten, and some were outright nixed from the get-go. I've compiled a list of some of the bigger names and/or lovelier gals from those mentioned - who has the biggest axe to grind?

Poor Screech...last place. How fitting, I suppose.

Cue the Neil Diamond comeback, folks! The clear winner in the Diamond poll with 28% of the vote was The Jewish Elvis himself. My vote for the Beastie Boys' Mike D proved fruitless, as he finished a distant fifth, after Lou Philips (2nd) and a tie between DDP and DLR. I know one thing for sure - this has to be one of the most eclectic groupings of artists that I've ever seen.

I quite like this new poll. Many an author has had their works translated to film, but not all that many have had more than about five made into movies. Of the choices given, which are all of the biggies outside of that Shakespeare guy, whose do you think has made for the best flicks (or at least your favorites)?

If you need a little jogging of your brain to see which books have been made into movies, check this site out. It could use some updating, but is still pretty helpful.

In a runaway, Emma is your favorite "Stone." By far. The Easy A star took nearly 50% of the voting, gathering 29/60 votes. A three-way tie for second followed, with Oliver, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and, shockingly, Romancing the Stone. Sadly, Edward Norton's latest flick, merely titled Stone was the sole option to receive nary a vote.

Today's run of "#jewishbondfilm" hashtags on Twitter had me seeing loads of Diamonds Are Forever jokes. Combine that with an inability to come up with a great poll topic and/or the desire to avoid an Oscar-themed one, and the result is another precious stone-themed poll. In other words, it's time to pick your favorite Diamond (I left movies out of the equation this time around...maybe that'll be the next poll).

In the meantime, here's a nice picture of Emma Stone.

That last poll was just a test. A test to see if Scott of He Shot Cyrus/Frankly My Dear checks out this site/votes on the polls. He has failed.

Naw, just kidding - though when I looked at the results and saw zero votes for either "A disappointment" or "A waste of time," I must admit that that's what I thought of, since he's the most vocal hater of the flick that I know of.

Anyway, the results speak for themselves. Academy, for ~90% of those that have seen it, The Social Network is not their choice for the best film of the year. Then again, I tend to think that my audience would rate The King's Speech even lower; perhaps not, just a guess. (I'm HUGE with Scott Pilgrim/Inception fans, advertisers.)

New poll is just a silly one I thought up. At first, it was going to be Valentine's Day related with Dustin DIAMOND and RUBY Dee and JEWEL Kilcher and PEARL Jam and Emma STONE, but I thought of enough stones on their own (and knew Emma would rock that poll) that I thought a stoney poll was in order. I also ran out of precious jewel names (Sapphire is just a stripper name, right? Any celebs named Amethyst?)...

Poll results; new poll

Back-to-back viewings of Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Beautiful Girls was more than enough to get high school reunion movies on my brain. Pushing the question of "which is the best one?" got absolutely unsurprising results, as Grosse Pointe Blank (my vote as well) won the poll handily with 53% of the vote. Zack and Miri, which has a great reunion scene but it admittedly a very small part of the film, stole second place from Romy and Michelle. The lesson, as always...if you're going to have two people's names in the title of your high school reunion-themed movie, have it be those of a man and a woman. Peggy Sue Got Married tried with only one name and look how creamed it got...

New poll is up and wants to know your feelings on The Social Network. It seems as though the further away from its release we get, the more polarizing it gets. Hailed by so many as the film of the year, it's reputation as "this generation's Citizen Kane" ain't doing it any favors (see last week's State of the Cabins), and I know quite a few people that have labeled it with the dreaded "O" word (this doesn't even count Scott of the Frankly, My Dear podcast who has been shouting his hate for it from the rooftops).

So, where does your opinion of it fall?

More lists - sweet! Everyone loves lists, I suppose, and I'm no different. Lists and editorials tied for the win in the last poll, with reviews right behind. Poor FF-UNs (to be honest, I haven't been all that inspired to do many of them lately anyhow). So, I shall do my best to oblige the 17 of you that voted - the lists and editorials shouldn't be a problem, it's getting back on that review horse that I might struggle with. We'll see.

New poll was brought upon by recent re-watches of both Beautiful Girls and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Each film features a high school reunion in one way or another - Girls is centered on it, it's more secondary to Miri. There aren't a ton of choices out there per IMDb, but I've given you the biggest that I know of. Several other films involve a college reunion (The Tao of Steve) or a general reunion of friends from either high school or college, but I've included only those where the inclusion is pretty direct. I've also got a hunch as to the clear winner, but that's why they play the games (or have the polls, as it were).

Just how long was that last poll up for - three months? I'm pretty sure I timed it for the release of that Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel vomit-fest about them raising somebody's baby, but who can be sure? Anyway, Heigl didn't win, but considering that she's the only one of the contenders that hasn't had massive amounts of plastic surgery (that we know of), her strong 2nd place showing still speaks volumes about what people think of her.

No, instead it was the Chairman of the Board himself that ran away with the contest, taking 57% of the votes and rubbing them all over his freaky-looking face. Just for maximum impact, I've decided to risk you violently clicking away from this page by including a picture of the handsome, funny devil. Ain't he purty?

New poll is reflecting on the 4th b-day of BC by asking you what you'd like to see more of 'round these parts aka what do you miss most from the repetoire you'd grown accustomed to here?

Poll results; new poll

On the heels of the 30 days of crazy blog-a-thon, I cherry-picked some choice psychos and included them in the latest poll. The winner, with 23% of the vote...Norman Bates! Coming in 2nd, one vote behind Bates, was Se7en serial killer John Doe, and I have no idea how he wasn't the runaway winner of this thing. He starved that guy for a year, carefully keeping him alive (and taking pics!)...oh, and let's not forget about all of the other people he painstakingly butchered. He makes Patrick Bateman out to be positively sane in my eyes. Anyway...

So last time was craziest, how about another -iest this time? Pick the celeb that frightens you the most...if you dare.

The winner - in a barnburner - of the Grindhouse faux trailer you'd most like to see next is..Werewolf Women of the SS. Yeah, good luck with that one. Who knows - it could happen, but I seriously doubt it. Thanksgiving, on the hand, I'd say that's almost a certainty.

Favorite 80s/90s action star? No contest - the Governator wins in a walk with 39%, more than double his nearest competitor.

So...who was the "other" vote for?

New poll ties into the man, the myth - Machete. Now that Bob Rodriguez has made one faux Grindhouse trailer into a feature, which one do you want next?

(By the way, if you saw Grindhouse in the theater like I did, how pissed are you that you didn't get to see Hobo with a Shotgun? Apparently, it played only in select theaters, mostly in Canada. I gotta go watch that thing...)

Out of the eight films listed in the last poll, which asked which well-received films from thus far in 2010 you predict to receive a Best Picture nomination, there seemed to be three tiers. First, the practical shoo-ins, led by poll winner Inception (86%) and Toy Story 3 (63%). Next, the kinda-sorta-maybes, made up of indie darlings Winter's Bone and The Kids Are All Right (~30%) - in a year with five nominees, I'd say neither of these make it This year? Who the hell knows? And finally, the not-a-chance-in-hells, none of whom received more than 15% of the votes.

I guess I'll report back to you in six months with the true results of this poll.

New poll is hopping onto the success of The Expendables and forces you to pick your favorite of the 80s/90s top action stars. An easy choice?

Poll results; new poll

For the last poll, I tried to pick the three "consensus" best films from six of the most prestige working (and youngish) directors of the day, curious to see whose body of work you all thought (more or less) would stand the test of time the best. Let's just say that Darren Aronofsky had better not stop working any time soon.

It was a three-way race between Tarantino, Nolan and Fincher, and in the end, QT eked out an 11-10 victory over the Fight Club director. The Anderson (Wes and Paul Thomas) join Darren as the guys most in need of love from film geeks, with poor showings for them as well.

New poll asks you to prognosticate which of the more loved (and still widely seen, mostly) films from the first seven months of the year will end up with a Best Picture nomination - choose all that you think will make the cut.

The choice of BC readers for their favorite Tom Cruise flick? Largely inconclusive, though Collateral took the win, with a one vote edge over Top Gun and "other." So what were the other picks? Eyes Wide Shut? The Color of Money? Tropic Thunder?!?!

New poll is a "just for fun" one (as opposed to the others, which are for science) - I've given you three choice films (Whose choice? Mine.) from some of the top directors working today - you get to pick one. Should be interesting...will it be a tight race?

By a wide margin, you chose Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Monkey Fighting Shias as the clubhouse leader in the "worst ending" department. Funny, I hated the movie almost in totality; the ending was surely ridiculous enough to be put on that list, but I'm a bit surprised it won - and so handily. Though I can't remember what I did vote for - probably A.I. It should also be noted that the great Steven Spielberg has three entries on that list; I know it's neither a scientific nor comprehensive list, but if you look around the 'net, you'll see his films often on lists of films with terrible endings. And Minority Report could certainly be considered for such lists as well, especially if you ask Mrs. Fletch.

New poll piggybacks on to the Favored Five I just put up of Tom Cruise flicks. A few people have already chimed in in the comments with their favorites - what's yours?

Well I bitched, and you finally answered - thanks! The people hath spoken, and by a narrow margin, they demand more Nic Cage-hating from this site. Apparently, my taking down of the "unless you like Nic Cage" subhead with the template change has made quite an impact. Well, Dwellers, The Sorcerer's Apprentice is just around the corner, and Season of the Witch has to be coming soon, so I shall step up my Cage-related activities.

You also miss FF-UN - me too! So I posted one yesterday that had been sitting in my hopper for some time now, waiting to be finished. Now I just need to pay more attention to all those FF-UNs out there waiting to be recognized.

Things to Click On may or may not return in the near future, and I'll do my best to be a good little monkey and come up with new stuff.

New poll comes days after having seen Splice, which might not belong on a list of awful endings, but it's fresh in my mind and is pretty ridiculous, and it's my site and I'll include it if I want to, damnit. Anyway, I'm wondering, from the films listed, which ended worst? Could be it just fell flat, could be it was ridiculous. Is probably both.

Well, I'm certainly glad to hear that at least most of you like the new template around here. I realize it's not perfect, but I think it works well with what I want for BC. I love the Featured Posts header, and I love how all of the widgets fit together so nicely. Stay tuned for an eventual logo overhaul as well.

New poll stays meta. I've been somewhat schizo over the years, starting and stopping new features. I usually do so for a good reason, whether it's because of a vibe I'm picking up on or a general lack or activity or if I feel like something has just run its course. Still, I'm curious - which feature that you haven't seen in awhile do you miss most (if any)?
