New poll is a "just for fun" one (as opposed to the others, which are for science) - I've given you three choice films (Whose choice? Mine.) from some of the top directors working today - you get to pick one. Should be interesting...will it be a tight race?
11 people have chosen wisely: on "Poll results; new poll"
Yay for Collateral! I love that movie.
As for the new poll, I went with Fincher. As much as I love Nolan's films (especially Inception), there's something about the mix of Fight Club, Se7en, and The Game that resonates with me.
Agreed, Collateral is a near-masterpiece by Michael Mann imo. Happy it pulverized Top Gun muaahha
I guess I'm gonna have to give Collateral another shot one of these days. I never even finished it.
Castor - negative words against Top Gun will not be tolerated. :P
Glad to see that Collateral was the winner:) Yay! Thought that Jerry Maguire or Top Gun would snatch it though.
Love the new poll.
I went with Tarentino barely edging out Nolan. Despite the fact that I think Nolan is by and far the best filmmaker in the world. If the pol had included 4 films per and The Prestige had been included, I would have went Nolan.
And while Fight Club is my favotite movie, The Game isnt in the class of the other Tarentino and Nolan pictures listed.
My "other" vote went to Cocktail. I think I've said this before, but that's my "Fletch". . .
JSR - I had to go with QT as well, though I think I would regardless of whether or not a fourth film was added. In fact, I'd like to switch out Reservoir Dogs for True Romance, but alas, not a QT flick.
These are pretty much all tough choices. And I agree, The Game, much as I like it, just isn't in the same class as just about every other movie listed here. Fincher has yet to make a 3rd great flick in my eyes (I was one of them that didn't love Zodiac).
Justin - are you implying that Fletch is a guilty pleasure? How dare you!
Actually, in my opinion Magnolia is by far the worst movie in ther poll. Gawd that movie is AWFUL.
You've read Klosterman, Fletch, so you should know that "guilty pleasure" is not really a logical description of something.
I just plain love COCKTAIL haha (and the fact that not an overwhelming amount of people agree with me makes it that much more special!)
Justin - indeed I have read Klosterman, though I disagree with him on that point (however logical it might be). I believe in guilty pleasures.
I think what Cocktail might be for you, then, is what Point Break is for me. Many, many people refer to it as a guilty pleasure or something of that ilk while I just plain love it for what it is and refuse to see any badness in it that would deem me being ashamed to love it so.
Fletch, on the other hand, is an unmitigated classic and belongs nowhere near this discussion. :D
