Ladies of the 80s Tournament - Round 1: Kelly Preston (2) vs Kerri Green (7)

Previous results: No. 1 seed Cates doubled up Lea Thompson 22-11. A sure victory, though not nearly as much of a drubbing as I was expecting. Lotsa Lea lovers out there... Click here to view the updated full bracket.

Kelly Preston

Comments: Pretty ironic that it's so difficult to find worthy (and SFW) images of Preston from the 80s considering how hot she was/is. Then again, maybe that "SFW" stuff might be the problem, as Preston never did have a problem dropping her top, and the internet ain't exactly known for its tact. Just do a search for Mischief...you'll see what I mean.
80s Highlights: Mischief, 52 Pick-Up, Space Camp, Twins

Kerri Green

Comments: Earlier, we spoke about Amanda Peterson being a Girl Next Door, but do they any Next Doorier than Kerri Green? I can't recall much of Summer Rental, but for her two most fondly remembered roles, she was the epitomy of the GND, and even doubled as an honorary Goonie. As Moviezzz points out in the Whatever Happened To? post for Green, she too (like Peterson) has more or less quit on acting. What shouldn't be surprising is that she's just as cute today (if not more so).
80s Highlights: The Goonies, Summer Rental, Lucas, Three for the Road

Goonies never say "die"!

Kerri all the way.

I know why people (mainly guys) watch Mischief, but is it ever a horrible film, it's not worth sitting through to see that particular scene! Still I'll go with Preston. Green is the girl next door, but more like the homely girl next door. This ought to be another lopsided round.

I agree whole-heartedly with MVP. I will also say that Preston might be my favorite to win it all.

She was hot then, today, and probably when she's 80 (like a Helen Mirren kind of hot, who is hot for an old broad)

Preston is the pick here, but for me it's not nearly as wide a gap as for Answer and Red Couch. I liked Kerri Green a lot (and like her recent pics even more) - she was cute and attainable in Lucas and the Goonies, but I'd never say she was homely. Not at all.

And Mischief ain't that bad. I'd say it's worth it in 1985 to watch it, but with the internets, not so much.

Preston may be the best looking girl in this whole tournament. But I have never really thought of her as a quintesential 80s actress.
I am using this as an excuse to vote for Green, because i completely loved her in Goonies.

Y'all are crazy... neither of these excite me whatsoever. But if I have to choose, I'm going with Kerri Green.

Kelly Preston? Come on! You instantly lose points for the whole Scientology thing... Kerri Green essentially shaped what your bully of a big brother is supposed to be dating, when you haven't tied your brother to an easy chair to go out treasure hunting.

@Jack - I don't really think any of the actresses in this competition are "quintessential 80s actresses". If that was the point of this, Sharon Stone and some others would be on the list. This is essentially more memorable young actresses who starred in mostly corny roles.

Fletch said...

Answer - surely you jest!! Yes, this is memorable actress that starred in mostly younger movies, but they're absolutely quintessential. You know who isn't? Sharon Stone, who was in one Police Academy movie (in 1987)and wasn't remotely famous until Total Recall came out...in 1990, and even then was barely known until 1992 when Basic Instinct came out. Your claim loses all credibility with me when you cite Stone as essential...

My point is these aren't the Top actresses of the 80's. I'll remove my Sharon Stone example simply because I'm decade illiterate, I seem to continuously get the 80's mixed with the 90's. But now I'm wondering why Sharon Stone isn't in this competition, looking on IMDb I see she had a lot of 80's films.

King Solomon's Mines
Allan Quartermain
Above the Law
Action Jackson

Just as notable (or campy) roles as some of the other on this list.
