TGITDNMAR (5/15/09)

It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.

Yawn.

Angels & Demons
Read the book the first film was based on. Saw the first film. Was underwhelmed. Haven't read the book. Don't plan on seeing the movie unless I see the book. Don't plan on reading the book anytime in the near future. Miss Audrey Tautou, even if she had a blah role the last time around. Glad Hanks' hair doesn't look so retarded. Miss Alfred Molina, but glad to see Ewan McGregor and Stellan Skarsgård. Still not gonna see it.

Management
Is this another case of me totally missing the advertising for a film that the rest of you can't escape? Granted, I haven't been to the theater nearly as much this year compared to last (as discussed previously), but I'm still making it out on average of once a week. You'd think that I would see posters and/or trailers for most wide(r) releases.

I'd only first read of this flick over at WaywardJam's place last week. So what's the deal? Aniston, Zahn, Josh Lucas - I know they aren't the biggest stars in the world, but I'm more than a little surprised that I know almost nothing about this. Must be because nothing explodes in it, no one figures it's worth talking about. Anyway, I'm game (especially considering my options).

Haven't seen Angels & Demons yet, though I probably will. I read the book sometime last year. It's the exact same (and I mean *exact same*) formula as the Da Vinci Code, even though Angels & Demons technically came first. Just imagine DVC, but with a heavier focus on science instead of religion, with even flatter characters, and without the cool albino monk villain... and you have Angels & Demons. Literally. There's even an elderly crippled person who is a genius/scholar in the field of the subject of the plot who could quite possibly be the villain. They're basically twins of each other, but with a different plot/focus. So that gives you a basic idea of whether or not you'd like it.

Though I've heard from early reviewers that this movie is better than the DVC movie, so at least that's a plus.

As for Management... I've never heard of it, either.

Angels and Demons is just "meh". I actually preferred the Da Vinci Code. Not by much, mind you.

The Smoke Monster can't kill Jacob because that would be against "the rules" of whatever game they're playing - which is why he needs to find a loophole. Esau/Smokey cannot be the one who kills Jacob.

I never saw the Da Vinci Code film (although I've read both books), so I'll likely be skipping Angels & Demons as well. The trailers I've seen for Management look promising, though.

Avoid Management. You won't be missing much of anything. It'll serve just fine as a "bored on Sunday afternoon" movie six months from now.

And yeah, it sounds like I'll definitely be skipping A & D as well.
