Cameron Diaz
Comments: The 17th of our models-turned-actresses, Diaz took a different path than many of them. Most eased into it, honed their craft, paid their dues, etc.; not Cameron. She went from nowhere to everywhere in the span of two words: The Mask. Jim Carrey's Ace Ventura follow-up was hotly anticipated, and Diaz landed the plum role of his leading lady. She's been a star ever since, and managed to star in several of the decade's most iconic films.
90s Highlights: The Mask, My Best Friend's Wedding, There's Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, Any Given Sunday
Jennifer Lopez
Comments: I'm not sure what J-Lo would list as her profession these days - sure, she's a talent show host (sounds glamorous, no?), but is she still an actress or singer? - but she was one busy body in the 90s. From Fly Girl to Karen Sisco and best-selling artist in less than five years. Oh, and she's kinda famous for that ass of hers, too.
90s Highlights: Selena, Anaconda, Out of Sight
8 people have chosen wisely: on "Ladies of the 90s Tournament - Round 1: Cameron Diaz (3) vs. Jennifer Lopez (6)"
Not a fan of Cameron Diaz at all but her appearance in The Mask... damn!
Cameron Diaz in THE MASK is exceptional. "gee baby ... ain't i good to you". Indeed you are Cameron.
Definitely Cameron. No contest here, unless you really REALLY like Selena (and I know a ton of people who do).
How is Diaz leading this one? Granted she had more hits in the 90's but J.Lo's work in Out of Sight was golden. Golden I say!
As much as I hate voting for Cameron Diaz, "star in several of the decade's most iconic films" really says it all.
@ Castor - I dug me some Cameron in the 90s. Post-Charlie's Angels...not so much. Really, though, she still looks fine to me, she can just be a bit annoying.
@ Mrs. Fletch - It's not 'meh,' it's 'baaa.' We need to get that changed globally.
@ Simon - Well said, sir.
@ Nick - replace Selena with Out of Sight and I could see that, but I don't know anyone that gives a shit about Selena. Then again, I don't live in Texas and though there might be lots of people I know that DO care about it, I ain't askin' and they ain't sayin',
@ CS - As you can see, I'm with you on Out of Sight. An all-time favorite there. But even my love for that flick is not nearly enough for J-Lo to win this. Diaz is/was way hotter and has a much better overall 90s resume.
@ Red - Indeed, even if I was exaggerating a bit. :)
Yeah, come to Texas and ask really any Hispanic girl from the age of 8 to 30, and they've probably seen Selena a thousand times.
(Over-generalization complete.)
I definitely pick Cameron Diaz, great actress with beauty.
