Ladies of the 90s Tournament - Round 1: Salma Hayek (2) vs. Famke Janssen (7)

Previous results: Let's just say that, unlike Miss Elizabeth, it wasn't pretty. The Wild Thing herself, Denise Richards, put a hurt on the American Pie sweetheart, pounding her 23-5. Click here to view the updated full bracket.

Salma Hayek

Comments: ¡Ay Dios Mio! Hayek burst into the collective consciousness on many English speakers with her starring role in Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi redux, Desperado. From there, her continued collaboration with Rodriguez (as well as her alluring looks, natch) paved the way to stardom. Oh, and a lead role opposite Matthew Perry...just what every girl wants.
90s Highlights: Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Dogma, Wild Wild West

Famke Janssen

Comments: The Dutch-born Janssen has had quite the interesting career, one that's many degrees more varied and intriguing than most model-turned-actresses. She got her start in a traditional manor, via single-serving TV episodes and such, but a plum role as the villainous vixen Xenia Onatopp in the most relevant Bond film of the last 25 years provided her with the freedom and opportunities to take roles that were far beyond skin deep. These days, she's probably most famous for her role as Jean Grey, but alas, the X-Men films didn't begin until 2000.
90s Highlights: GoldenEye, Rounders, The Faculty

Salma Hayek SO HARD.

Famke Janssen is weird-looking. Plus I hate Jean Grey and I've always had trouble separating Famke from the role since it's the main thing I've seen her in.

Salma-no contest.

@ Blake - haha. I can't tell if you're being serious or not. Nip/Tuck was such a wacky show...

@ Alex - interesting choice of words...

I think Famke is beautiful, but in a striking sort of way. She's certainly no Barbie doll, and at times can look bad, but other times looks awesome.

@ Rachel - But yeah. This is still a no-brainer.

A walk in the park for Salma Hayek.

Sigh. Another tough choice to make. You're killing me, Smalls.

I was originally gonna say "As much as I love The Faculty, I think Salma wins this pretty easily."

But then I realized that Salma Hayek is ALSO in The Faculty, so BOOYA. Salma wins no contest.

@ Castor - Indeed.

@ D.J. - Not really. This was a pretty easy choice for me.

@ Nick - Yeah, I noticed that, too. Forgot Hayek was in it till I looked at her resume this morning. Haven't seen it in over a decade. Forgot (or never knew somehow) that Bob Rodriguez directed it, too.

Lol of course everyone goes for Salma, typical. Big boobs, she's gorgeous, no doubt. I prefer Famke. Smart, tall, sexy, even though she's ancient. I suppose I just like to go for the underdog :) She was dumb in X-Men. I liked her in Turn The River and Nip/Tuck better. We all know Nip/Tuck was stupid but Famke made it awesomes ;)

@ Anon - Who is that? I feel like you forgot to put your name in...

I can certainly buy arguments for Famke. She's much more striking than Hayek is.
