Ladies of the 90s Tournament - Round 1: Julia Roberts (1) vs. Courtney Cox (8)

Previous results: The tightest matchup yet! Ashley Judd somehow got off to a lead against the 2nd-seeded Halle Berry, but cooler minds (and a full weekend of voting) prevailed, as the once and future BAP eked out a 20-19 victory. Click here to view the updated full bracket.

Julia Roberts

Comments: Teenage boys might not have had posters of Miss Roberts up on their walls in the 90s (or ever, really), but there's no disputing that she was not only "America's Girl Next Door" from 1990 until several years later, when Sandra Bullock more or less inherited it. She was the leading lady of the decade, just about as big a name as Cruise or Hanks or Ford.
90s Highlights: Pretty Woman, Hook, The Pelican Brief, My Best Friend's Wedding, Notting Hill, Conspiracy Theory

Courtney Cox

Comments: Ok, mea culpa. Any or all of the contestants in the current site poll regarding which actress got snubbed the most (go vote right now - it only takes half a second) ought to be in this tournament over Cox, notable for three films and three films only during the 90s. Even the Evil Zellweger. What can I say? The Boss influenced me...
90s Highlights: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Scream, Scream 2

Note: If this turns into a bloodbath fairly quickly, I might just end the poll early and give y'all a twofer, starting the next matchup later today. Stay tuned.

Finally, an actress I like! Courtney Cox is fantastic.

Also, Julia Roberts is terrible. I actively avoid all her films. She's like the Megan Fox of the '90s.

While I think Julia has more notable films, I'm going with Cox... and yes, partially out of spite that Halle won last round.

The Megan Fox of the 90s? Really? That might be the most ridiculous comparison I'll hear all day.

@ James - You continue to surprise me. You're joking, right? With both of your statement?

@ Nick - haha, oh well - I figured there might be a Julia backlash anyway.

@ Shawn - No kidding - I thought the same thing. Would be kinda like saying Paul Giamatti is the Steve McQueen of the 2000s.

I never thought Julia Roberts was pretty so it's an easy one for me today!

I am still shocked that Cox is even in this competition. Curse you, Bruce! Having said that, it is a proven fact that people named Courtney are generally good people. So that is enough to sway my vote for this round.

Including Courtney from Survivor (aka: stick)??

@ Castor - Yeah, I can see that. Horsey.

@ CS - Hey, I apologized already, man - what else do you want from me? ;)

Haha, I like your logic.

@ Mrs. Fletch - Touche, Courtney. Though, if you don't watch Survivor...kinda lost on ya.
