It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.
Worst weekend of the new year by far. The less time spent on this, the better. I'll be spending my weekend finishing The Green Mile book, then watching the movie. Also will be watching the Super Bowl (Go Steelers Not Winning! I say that because I'm not a Packers fan, but I don't want the Steelers getting any more championships ahead of the 49ers) and finishing a certain classic comedy that I'm thus far nonplussed with (!).
Sanctum

I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but Mr. Titavatard is the producer on this one. Not that that makes me want to see it any more. I'm sure it's not as bad as I made it out to be on Facebook, but isn't this just Open Water in an underwater cave? I can't wait until the Descent version of this comes out with underwater cave sea monsters...though hell, that's probably already happened.

The Roommate
I'm so old. I recognize the name Leighton Meester. I've heard the name Minka Kelly. I could tell you nothing about either of them, aside from guessing that they're both nubile, attractive young women. I scanned the entire listed cast of this flick, and only one name stuck out, and it's one that the demographic this film is targeted towards probably doesn't even know (and he's not even that old). Who is it?
P.S. - Stating the obvious here, but the IMDb "Recommends" section at the bottom of each movie's page sucks. How in holy moses is Single White Female not one of the choices?

9 people have chosen wisely: on "TGITDNMAR (2/4/11)"
I think I may see "Sanctum," simply because I need to get the bad 3D taste of "The Green Hornet" out of my mouth.
Listen to your friend Billy Zane! He's a cool dude!
Rachel - Hey there! I guess that's a good enough reason. No Oscar flicks left to see? I still have a couple to knock out before I worry about the crappy 2011 releases...
Alex - :)
I just realized the other day that Sanctum wasn't DIRECTED by James Cameron. The way it was advertised, I figured it was.
I'm actually not too interested in either. I think I'm gonna try to get to The King's Speech this weekend.
Nick - The advertisers almost got you! Good that you got wise to their scheme before plunking down money. :)
Ditto on The King's Speech. Mrs. Fletch saw it the other day; my turn now.
I did get a major Descent vibe from the Sanctum trailer...not enough to get me to see it though.
What REALLY puts me off are all the made for Australian audiences trailers that advertsie proudly how it was shot in our far North...in an area that right now is being devestated by floods...
...sort of seems like they might want to shy away from associating with a movie about people getting trapped underwater.
Fletch and Nick, I think you'll both be making the right choice in checking out Kings Speech
Perhaps by the end of this year we can have a Tyler Perry vs. James Cameron 'Name-Off' and see whose name is thrown out more injudicious.
I saw True Grit on Friday and then The Story in their Eyes on Saturday. Much better than the new releases I think ;)
Tom - Wow - that's some poor taste advertising right there. I can understand them wanting to promote local folks (or areas), but have some tact.
Didn't get to King's Speech this weekend...perhaps later this week, and definitely before the big shot.
Univarn - lol. I'll setting the line at Tyler Perry (-3).
Castor - Indeed. Wise choices.
