Today marks Blog Cabins' 4th birthday. I'm hoping that it turns out to be a significant marker in the history of the site, and that its timing is a harbinger of good things to come. My wife's birthday was yesterday and she and I will be parents for the first time any second now (if only all these days could fall on the same day! Perhaps the baby will come tomorrow and I'll have three days of celebration in a row in the future.). Also, I'd like to think that, after a couple months of lowered activity (putting it gently) here that I've turned the corner as of late and gotten back on the blogging train, and what better day to cement that status than the fourth anniversary of my first post.
As most do in posts like these, I'd like to once again thank all of you that come here, thank those that come here regularly even more, and thank those that comment even more. I hope you enjoy whatever it is that I come up with next (and I hope I enjoy it, too!).
Now, for some perspective that has little contextual meaning here, a partial list of Fourth Films in a Series...obviously, number four is where the quality really kicks in:
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Batman & Robin
Land of the Dead
Live Free or Die Hard
Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace
Thunderball
Bride of Chucky
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Rocky IV
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The Next Karate Kid
Return of the Pink Panther
Terminator: Salvation
Lethal Weapon 4
Alien Resurrection
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (I say this counts)
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
22 people have chosen wisely: on "I'm this many years old"
First off, Happy Birthday!
Secondly, not only does the quality of these series decline at number four, but a good number seem to be an afterthought, merely tacked on many years after their predecessors, hoping for a reboot but ultimately failing. Here's hoping that doesn't apply to blogs!
Happy 4th anniversary Fletch! Truly a feat of longevity to be around that long when so many blogs come and go.
Happy Blog-a-Versary good sir! Here's hoping the fourth year of this space is more GOBLET OF FIRE...and less QUEST FOR PEACE.
Happy birthday to you.
Happy birthday to you.
Happy birthday dear Blog Cabins,
Happy birthday to you!
...yes, I'm very 'musically talented'.

Bonjour! Monsieur Fletch...
Wow! a lot of great news going on here...today!
First of all, Congratulation! are in order for you, and Mme
Madame Fletch!...with the good news of an expectant member, to your family...(Hmmm...I didn't know that your wife was expecting a baby!) maybe the baby will be born on Christmas day!...then the baby can have a combination of birthday and X-mas gifts.
Secondly, Happy! [Belated] Birthday! to Mme.Fletch,...and Finally, Congratulation! on your fourth year anniversary too!
[Postscript:If you noticed I prioritize the events in which I deemed the most important!]
Merci, and Bonne chance!
DeeDee ;-D
Happy birthday indeed! I would say this is a huge achievement. Now, what would qualify as an even bigger achievement is you coming back on board the blogging train with an infant in your life - not that I know from experience, yet.
Am the only one who kind of liked Live Free or Die Hard? ;-P
Assume that in this space I'm singing a happy blog birthday song in an eloquent and melodious voice.
Way to go on making it to 4 years! I only hope that some day I can do the same.
Happy 4th birthday and well done! Nice one buddy.
Great news all around - best of luck with the soon to be bouncing bambino.
As far as fourth movies in a series go, "Bride of Chucky" was actually terrific. The third Child's Play movie was actually just kinda dull - it couldn't even really make fun of itself very well like the first two did. But the fourth (and even more so the fifth "Seed Of Chucky") is so very very entertaining - mostly due to Jennifer Tilly's awesomeness, but also to a renewed approach to the whole series.
Happy blog day, friend.
Congrats on the blog anniversary! It's a cool thing, huh? I just hope that list of films doesn't reflect the quality of your site.
Rachel - that will be my new tagline. Blog Cabins: The Crystal Skull of Blogs. ;)
Castor - thanks! Trust me, it ain't easy, and yea, I've seen many a good blog come and go in that time. A shame - so many good bloggy friends have given it up and then they all but disappear from everyone else'e site, too. I'm motivated to not be one of those people!
Hatter - how 'bout I strive for Rocky IV? If I can do, and you can do it...EVERYONE can do it!!!
Stevee - why thank you! A shame I didn't tell you this was upcoming the other day...
DeeDee - she's not - we're adopting. And no way on Christmas - the baby ought to really be here any minute now. The due date is the 11th. Thanks for all the well-wishes!
Daniel - mark it down - I'm back, baby! Speaking of four years...if I recall, you aren't too far behind me...
Live Free or Die Hard isn't gawdawful...but it's pretty bad, and somehow even turned the awesome Tim Olyphant boring. Boo.
Univarn - I imagine you'll have a difficult time, if only because your career as a game show host ought to be keeping you pretty busy. Speaking of which...whither the Enigma?
Sarah - Gracias!
Bob - I'm gonna go ahead and just take your word on the Chucky series there. Actually, I think I've seen Bride of Chucky a bunch years ago, but I can scarcely remember it. All I can really recall is that it showed a sense of humor as the series had kinda given up on scaring people at that point.
Blake - Merci, amigo!
Nick - Oh, but then I'll make it to year five, where film series really turn on the good stuff! Order of the Phoenix FTW!
Congrats on making it to the fourth! I think that's the accomplishment in and of itself. Glad we've had you around this long and wish for another four (well, if we're wishing for things, I wish we all got paid to do it too!)
Yayyyyyy! Great job dude, and have fun celebrating your soon-to-be-threefold events! I'm very excited for you!
And Batman & Robin is totally awesome (as I'm sure you know), so you're in good company!
Return of the Pink Panther FTW! Hilarious movie! And congrats on all that goodness in your life, homey. That kid of yours is gonna be a bonafide movie addict. Awesome.
What, no Conquest of the Planet of the Apes?
Congrats Fletcher, keep it up.
MTFBWY
Wampa
Happy blog-versary and congratulations on your addition to your family.
Ugh Batman and Robin.
Happy 4th BDay, Fletcher.
I'll spank you 4 times when I see you! :)
Completely congrats on all the good news - I must say, is it bad parenting to 'chart' the film-education you will inevitably have with your child? I plan on saving the marathon of disney films until my [currently sperm-shaped] child is 4 years old. Then, every week, chronologically, we sahll watch every disney classic...
I know this response is late, but whatever. Ran out of willing guests (that I didn't have to hunt down constantly) for the show so I'm going to wait until I have the time to start organizing and pressing people weeks in advance for episodes. I'm also working on reorganizing a couple of things so I can try again and *hopefully* not get so many 'so hard!' responses.
Alex - many thanks. I hope you're honored by the name we picked out. ;)
Wampa - lol...guess I missed that one. But that's what you're here for, right?
Fitz - I'm with you. I can't even enjoy Batman & Robin from a so-bad-it's-good standpoint.
Kai - Sweet! Something to look forward to. I guess you'll only get one from me...
Simon - that's a sweet idea! Though, with all those Disney flicks, if you only do one a week, you might not finish until the kid is 7 or 8. And will you be including Direct-to-DVD titles as well?
Univarn - Well, I for one hope you bring it back soon. It's a fun game, regardless of how difficult it might be. And I'm sure there are more willing guests out there than you know. Hell, the LAMBcast has had 20+ participants to date and Hatter has found even more for his show.
Why, happy birthday, good man I don't visit nearly enough.
