LOST - John Locke Episode

So, it looks like they are really ramping up the action as they head toward the series finale. We still have no idea what the point of wasting half of their final season on an alternate reality was, but at least some exciting stuff is going on at the Island. Locke finally made his move, and the team members for both squadrons were hit last night with a bunch of casualties. Let’s take a look at my usual bunch of observations:

  • Locke’s planning is pretty subpar – If he had just let Jack die when Widmore was lobbing missiles at them last episode, and let the rest of the gang get on that airplane where Chuck Widmore’s bomb was, bang all the candidates would be dead and he’d be off the island and causing some trouble in the real world already…

  • And that leads us to another point, if Chuck Widmore wants to keep the candidates alive why is he shooting missiles at them, setting C-4 booby traps everywhere, and constantly shooting at them; makes me think he’s up to his usual Chuck Widmore tricks, I wouldn’t go trusting him just yet… he’s probably working with Locke

  • In the alternate reality why does everyone seem to know the flight number, I get that if a plane crashes the number is constantly referenced, like they made a movie about that 9/11 Flight 93 that was taken over by terrorists and shot down. But who remembers the number of a random flight they took, Jack and Desmond are going around asking everyone, “Hey were you on Oceanic Flight 815?” If I was talking about flying back to New York last year, and some weirdo asked me, “Hey were you on Flight 74 from Vegas to JFK?” I’d have no idea what they were talking about and probably think they were a psycho or a stalker.

  • So, what we learned last night is that Locke wants to kill the Candidates, Jack seems to be inheriting Jacob’s powers, Chuck Widmore is still dick, and last but not least… Desmondo is alive!!!!!! (omigod, omigod, omigod I hope they show him next week!!!)

  • No random alternate reality sightings this week, (unless you count Jack visiting Bernard, which I don’t… not quite random enough), c’mon they couldn’t have had Shannon be the nurse that wheeled over Anthony Cooper? Disappointing.

  • Well that was a short reunion between Jin and Sun, I feel bad for their kid, now she’s going to end up with Sun’s pop Mr. Paik, and that guy is a dick of Widmorian proportions.

  • I guess it’s 1 candidate down,3 to go, at least that Sun/Jin death was confirmed by Locke himself so we don’t have to worry about the standard retarded Lost rising from the dead, probably safe to assume also that even the Lost writers aren’t stupid enough to try to sell someone surviving a C-4 blast at close range, so we can write off Sayid.

  • I wonder if Alpert and Linus are going to get involved in this showdown, those guys have got to have a trick up their sleeve right? On the other hand, let’s all keep hoping that Rose and Bernard don’t somehow get involved, that Bernie sighting last night was forced and painful enough..

wasting half a series on alternate reality - its like a throw back to the heyday of Dallas in the 1980s and Patrick Duffy's ultimate long shower!!

I'm surprised you didn't mention the pilot's death, too. I'm pretty sure he died when the door smacked him in the head.

Also... what are Jacob's powers that Jack is getting?

Finally, I don't believe Widmore set up the bomb. Remember, Locke took the watch from the dead guard and then hooked it up to the C4. Unless he just knew the C4 was gonna be in there, so he snatched the watch to hook up to the bomb, etc...

Omg this is an awesome post on Lost!! So true? Who remembers their flight number??

I cannot wait to see how this all resolves itself. I wrote last month about how I don't really care about Sun/Jin and now I feel like sort of an ass...that was sad. But why didn't Sun say "go raise our baby!!" Jin is like...who cares? never met her...

Mrs. Fletch made the same point about the flight numbers last night. All about branding their "Ocaenix Flight 815" merchandise, no doubt.

I wanna know why, of all the main characters to bite it, they were all non-whites. Racist show. Watch out, Hurley - they're coming for you.

Jin was in the alternate reality in the hospital, but I guess that's not too random...

As a non-"Lost" watcher for, well, as long as the show's been on, sometimes I get the impression that listening to the people in my office detail each episode is more amusing than watching the show.

Talk amongst yourselves.

There is so much content in the show, the details are amazing! I have a post on mine called "Lost: Aren't we all?" The show is so much more than a passing hour...it's about life, love, loss, humanity. It's the eternal struggle between light, drak and shades of grey. It's wonderful.
Any guesses on who will be the next "Jacob"? i think it's hurley because he can talk to Jacob still. And Richard will be "set free" and Jack/Kate will be together.

Lapidas, guys... LAPIDAS! (He's white and he died...)

Fletch said...

Nick - Lapidas also ain't a major character. Not by a long stretch. And neither is Chip from Kate & Allie. [/reference lost on everyone]

Wild Celtic said...

Excellent point. Poor Lapidas. Also, Shannon, Boone, Libby, the two who hid the diamonds, Alex, Rousseau... and many more

David Bishop said...

Well clearly Lapidas survived and rescued Jin just as he floated away from his wife. He also found all the pieces of Sayid to later reassemble as some sort of Frankenstein creation.

Wild Celtic - I was referring to deaths specifically in this last episode. Though now that you mention it, minority characters have had a pretty awful time of it on LOST in general. I don't think all of it was the producers' choices (Eko) or their hand felt forced (Ana Lucia), but there's certainly a track record there.

And if we're playing the racism card, how about the fact that they killed off the Iraqi via suicide bomb?

As the Lost logo emerges at the beginning of each episode, I envision Fletch with his notebook ready to go.

An interesting episode this week for sure... one that finally piqued my adrenaline! It's been awhile.

I'm glad they are finally killing characters off. It's been far too long. Jin or Sun (or Sawyer!) should've died long long long ago.

And you better believe that I'm going to start using "a dick of Widmorian proportions" in my everyday lingo.

This Guy - only one problem: I don't write the LOST recaps...

Anyway, you're right - short of Iliana (and even she's weak), there hasn't been a lot of carnage lately besides super minor characters.

Fletch, I made the same point in my recap about the non-white folks dying (almost made an Arizona joke too, but refrained). I mean how can Kate get a gunshot to the chest, end up on the sinking sub and still live? Ridiculous.

Wild Celtic said...

Rachel- Totally agree. Kate isn't on the list, she's not needed for anything, she's all crazy "where's claire? Where's claire?" when claire wants kate dead...they have to drag her around all over the place. She serves no purpose! She's just the token boobage.

The glory of extensive men should unendingly be leisurely by way of the means they have cast-off to into it.

Wild Celtic said...

Okay, Anon, I'll bite.

First comment is about those who dream of greatness only to lose sight of it by morning. But those who set out to achieve their dreams by day are the ones who make dreams a reality. Sort of a "stop dreaming start doing" sort of quote.

Second one.. the glory of old men should be equal to the amount of work they've put into their life. So, sort of you reap what you sow.

How this equates to Lost...I'm unsure.

Locale an example is not the predominating means of influencing another, it is the no greater than means.
