Ladies of the 80s Tournament - Round 1: Lorie Griffin (3) vs Apollonia (6)

Previous results: The Princess of Shermer, Illinois would not be topped by Aykroyd's main squeeze. Ringwald upset Dixon despite a late surge by the Spies Like Us star, winning 22-18. Click here to view the updated full bracket.

Lorie Griffin

Comments: Moviezzz Blog, I demand a Whatever Happened To? entry for Ms. Griffin. Her first project was the one that made her famous (more or less), playing the bitchy Pamela Wells opposite Michael J. Fox in Teen Wolf. Then, some three years later, her next project (see below for details - you'll like it). Throw in a few TV jobs (Charles in Charge - yes! You just know Baio had his way with her) and it was basically a cloud of dust. Seven total projects on her IMDb page. So what happened to her?

Well, our friend Wiki might have a clue. It says "Griffin's last major role was the 1993 movie Sandman, that also starred Dedee Pfeiffer and was directed by Eric Woster who committed suicide the evening after the final day of shooting. Since that film, Griffin has retreated from the public eye." Crazy. Still, it's not like her career was taking off after Wolf, and I can't quite figure out why.
80s Highlights: Teen Wolf, Cheerleader Camp (FYI: co-stars fellow contender/fan favorite Betsy Russell)

Apollonia

Comments: I'm not trying to shirk my ownership of this event, but I have no idea how Apollonia got here. Far as I can tell, her partnership with Prince was the only real movie she was in during the 80s (I saw some other entries, but they appeared to be B movies or even soft-core, possibly). I never saw Purple Rain. Was her impact that big that when I was taking suggestions for who should be in here that she warranted a place? After all, I know that Pamela Wells (Griffin) was important to the lives of many a pre-pubescent (oh, and to Teen Wolf, too). Your votes will tell the story, I suppose.

I honestly don't know who to vote for. Never heard of either of them, and they're both very beautiful...

I went with Apollonia, she adds a little flavor to the typical blondes and brunettes in the competition. Doubt she has a chance of advancing though.

I'm with MVP here. I went with Apollonia. I think she's the better looking of the two, and she's a nice mix up to the blondes and whatnot.

Moviezzz - thank you for heeding the call. I really do think she's a good candidate for one of them.

I'll agree that this competition is pretty lily-white, but I just can't vote against Pamela Wells, especially not against someone "famous" for a silly name and one movie that I never saw.

Griffin FTW.

LOL @ Seriously, though.

I do appreciate at least the attempt to token...*cough* sorry, diversify the 80's tournament.

Might I suggest Rae Dawn Chong vs. Vanity as a better match-up? :)

Don't know if that's just a coincidence or not, but you gotta look at the bracket - they actually are up against each other in Round 2.
