Poll results; new poll

The bell curve for Avatar interest shifted a bit more to the "want to see it" camp than I might have anticipated, but I guess the box office results carry that point home as well. I'm glad there was at least one person more interested in watching Andy Rooney pluck his external nose hairs, though; I'm only saddened by the fact that I can't make that scenario come true for you, whoever you are.

New poll tests your prognostication powers - I've listed the major contenders to actually win the Best Picture award at this year's Oscars (sure, Avatar might get a nom, but I can't imagine there being a snowball's chance in hell of it winning). So play Nostradamus Miss Cleo and tell me which will take home the big prize. My money is on Up In the Air, despite The Awards Circuit's projection of The Hurt Locker, but there's a part of me that wants to project my personal favorite (Basterds) to win; if Up In the Air and Locker can cancel themselves out to a point, I think Basterds is the one that might benefit.

I voted for Precious. I haven't seen it yet, but I figure it's right up there with what the Academy would look for.

However, I'm with the majority voting who wants Basterds to win.

I'm surprised you have Last Station & An Education in there with both of their Oscar chances burned out months ago.

Nick - Precious ain't a bad bet, but I think it's momentum has passed it by...

...which brings me to your comment, Fitz. Has The Last Station even opened everywhere? I'm in a (haha) major market (Phoenix) and it still hasn't come here. And where are you getting the impression that An Education's chances are so far gone?

Either way, I chose movies like those because the Academy is much more likely to shower love on them than something like Star Trek or Avatar.
