Review of Watchmen coming soon, but in the meantime...

...a little Watchmen math.

And for you calculus majors, that's
Sin City times 300 to the Southland Tales power.

I'm all finished with my B.A. in mathematics, and I can't recall ever learning this. I think the school systems have failed me.

Southland Tales has power over us all.

*dropped out*

Amazingly enough, I was able to figure out exactly what you meant in your equation before I read your explanation.

And I *suck* at math... pretty hardcore.

Take Southland Tales out of the equation and I'm there. Otherwise I may be rethinking my decision to eventually see this one.

Rachel: You and I have pretty similar tastes in movies. I think you'll really like it.

Rachel said...

Yeah we do, Nick. I've noticed that too. In fact, just your review of The Spirit saved me $9. So thanks.

I'll probably check out Watchmen tomorrow.

Haha... glad I could save you from the awfulness that was The Spirit. But as you are a fan of MST3K, I'd say if you rent it when it comes out on DVD and watch it with your husband and riff on it, it'll be great fun. It's perfect for that kinda thing.

And speaking of, I was reading some of your reviews on MST3K. I totally agree with you on "Manos The Hands of Fate." I just watched that last week and laughed so hard I nearly peed myself. And then before that, I watched Hobgoblins, and felt exactly the same as you on that, as well. My Netflix should be sending me their take on "Time Chasers" (or something like that) either tomorrow or Monday, and I'm hoping I'm with you on your opinion there, too.

I thought Southland Tales was like Universally hated or something.

Watchmen is a good movie so I'm confused.

Nice one. :)
I agree, Sin City X 300 is a little too high to = Watchmen, so to the power of the crappy Southland Tales makes for a lesser, more realistic, number.

Oh and the grammar police called:
Looks like a rouge "it" slipped its way into the title there. Sneaky little bastard... :P

David - you have much to learn about filmic math, obviously. I can teach you. :)

J.D. - dropped out or passed out?

Congrats, Nick.

Rachel, Jason - Well, first Rachel. I know you hated Southland with a capital H; the squared power of Southland here is solely because of a feeling I got while viewing (not saying "watching") Watchmen. It's just that, like Southland, it's a bit of a mess at times, wanting to say so much about so many things that it kind of gets in the way of itself. Of course, Dr. Manhattan has almost everything to do with that, but not entirely.

And Jason, I don't hate Southland. In fact, we bought it, and after seeing Watchmen, I wanted to watch it again and did. When I reviewed it, I gave it simultaneously my best and worst ratings. I was EXASPERATED while watching it in the theater. It's a brilliantly awful movie, a mishmash of so many styles and ideas that it destroys itself. I guess it's like the snake that eats its own tail. But it has to be seen.

Anders - thank you for the grammar help - I do appreciate it (usually Mrs. Fletch is right on top of it).

my immediate reaction to Watchmen is to feel haunted by the intense style and storyline -- haunted in a good way; overall i loved it

I can't do the math. :( I cannot assign an importance to Southland Tales having still not seen it.
