TGITDNMAR (1/25/07)

It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.

No comments this week. I'm coming in cold and going out colder...

Untraceable
Gregory Hoblit, the director Primal Fear and last year's Fracture returns with this remake of The Net. What's that? Not a remake? My bad. But seriously, this is a thriller starring Diane Lane and Colin Hanks about a YouTube killer of sorts, who posts videos of his victims online. Sounds ho-hum, but Hoblit has a decent track record, so who knows?

Meet the Spartans
"From the makers of Epic Movie." Need I say more?

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
Those who have seen this on the festival circuit have nothing but good things to say about it. I can't say that I've seen much about it or know anything, either, but it's hard to ignore all that buzz. No, seriously, the buzz is deafening. I, like, can't even hear you right now, but if I could, you'd probably be saying this is a lame joke.
Fletch's Chance of Viewing: 66% (depends on if it comes to town)

Rambo
Here's the film I've been waiting 20 years to see! No, that's not true at all. I could not care less about John Rambo, but I am impressed at two things: first, that, like last year's Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone directed this edition and second, that the first 1,000 voters on IMDb have given this an 8.8/10 rating. Sure, that may be consisted solely of fanboys ("fanmen" at this age?), but I'd expect a number of them to be overly critical as well. Stallone himself resurrected at 61? We'll see...

If you have On Demand cable, you could watch 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days on IFC In Theaters. I caught it last night, which was actually my second time viewing the film. Seriously, Don't miss this one. The buzz is well deserved.

I'll let you know about Rambo...I am seeing it tonight. The first one was one of my favorite movies.

This would be the barren wasteland we always get post-Oscar season. Movie drek, and more movie drek. I have hopes for 4 Months, though. It won the Palme d'Or, so it couldn't be all bad.

I'll probably go see Untraceable, even though those types of movies recently have been more disappointing than not.

I don't have OnDemand, I'm afraid - DirecTv. Still, I can see if they have it on their PPV movies. Thanks for the tip.

Untraceable seems a little more disturbing to me than the typical cyber-thriller. Not that the premise could actually happen, but you know a scary number of people would go to such a site if it was set up.

Related to your last post - is this a movie that could only be relevant in 2008 or what? Think how it would fit in 1950 (impossible) or 2050 (who knows?).

Hey, you might need an edit. Your chance of seeing "Meet the Spartans" in the theater is at 0% instead of 100%, which must be what you actually meant.

I am with Sheamus. First Blood is one of the best movies ever! Give him a cigar!

Still, since I don't like II and pretend III never happened, I doubt I will be checking the new one.

fraze: Untraceable actually wasn't that bad.

Believe me, 4,3,2 isn't any bad. It will jolt you right out of your seat and stay with you for days.
