What's in a Name?

I know I'm probably one of only a few people in the world that this bothers, but...

Hey Dreamworks - no one gives a shit that you happen to be the studio that made the latest 3-D animated flick hitting theaters soon. Stop trying to be Disney.

(if you like, fast-forward to :24, :20, and :14, respectively)

Notice a trend here? What other studio - apart from Disney, who has actually been a viable brand name for more than half a century - does this? Are you going to see "MGM's Hot Tub Time Machine" or "Focus Features' Greenberg" this weekend?

No. Stop it, Dreamworks. You're pissing me off with every additional commercial I see.

Yeah, i'm with you - if they're gonna try and turn their name into a brand, they have to get W-A-A-A-A-A-A-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y more consistent with the quality of their animated movies.

I agree. If anything seeing that something is from Dreamworks makes me want to see it less than I would have otherwise or if it was from say Pixar.

Your thoughts stuck with me - including Mad Hatters comment. I had to link back to your thoughts on my blog! Thank you!

Thanks, everyone. As a post-script to this, I watched the teaser trailer for Dreamworks' next flick (with Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt), and BAM - you bet it was there again.

RC - thanks for the linkage!

And yes, Nick - I think most would agree that Kung Fu Panda is probably their best...but that still doesn't mean that "DREAMWORKS Kung Fu Panda" is any better than plain ole "Kung Fu Panda."
