Just 79 more days!

That's right, folks - BD hits theaters September 5th! Set your alarms and make plans (to be busy doing anything but seeing this) accordingly.

By the way, including this awesome movie, Cage has seven films in some stage of production, including a "re-envisioning" of the notorious 1992 Harvey Keitel flick Bad Lieutenant. Please please please don't unleash Cage's "little man" on the world, I beg of you.

25 people have chosen wisely: on "Just 79 more days!"

From a woman's point of view - aren't leading men supposed to be handsome?? He is so NOT good looking.

I can't wait to see what "Nic Cage" the blog commenter has to say about this.

Hmm... is it possible that you protest too much, and that one day Mrs. Fletch may find a shoebox clipped of Nic Cage articles and VHS tapes under your bed? :)

Nick said...

Yeah... I'm starting to wonder, Fletch. Are you a scorned lover of Nic Cage?

Fletch said...

The cool blue tones of that poster sure do make his skin look silky smooth, don't they?

Big Mike Mendez said...

Ah, Nic Cage, we hardly knew ye.

Wait, he is alive?

Daniel said...

Dude's terrible. Period.

Fox said...

Along with the silky smooth skin, his bottom lip looks like a peeled tangerine slice. Dontcha wanna bite it!??

Cage, to me, is similar to Keanu Reeves. He's not the greatest actor, but if you manage to cast him right he can be a film's greatest asset. Look at "Raising Arizona" or "Adaptation"...Cage is exceptional in both of those.

And Cage being in "Bad Lieutenant" is a moot point. It's being directed by Werner Herzog, which means it will be awesome even if he's cast Paris Hilton and Pauly Shore as well.

I was so so excited to see the trailer before The Happening and by the end even I was like, "Okay, I refuse to subject myself to that," and we all know I practically live on bad Nicolas Cage movies (shamefully so).

Have you watched the trailer, Fletch? I felt like I needed a shower and some disinfectant afterwards, that's how scuzzy Cage looks.

Nic Cage Oscars - 1, Irwin M. Fletcher - 0.

Cage rules, how about a Top 5 Cage movies, I think the Rock has to be #1, even if he was snubbed for another Oscar on that one...

@ Evan - Theoretically, I agree with you. Though, outside of Adaptation, when's the last time the hack really acted in a movie since Leaving Las Vegas? One challenge in 13 years? Raising Arizona was made 20 years ago...

@ Caitlin - yep, seen the trailer, though really, it's all a blur. I can't say I was paying that much attention.

@ Gay - excellent idea. Not really, exactly, but you see, I'm participating in a "Bizarro Blog-a-thon" over at a buddy's site soon, and that would make for a great topic. I really should do more Nic Cage-flavored posts...if you all haven't read my review of Next, I highly recommend it...

Fox said...

Didn't Gay post on here before? I remember him hatin' on The LAMB by - in some weird way - comparing it to NAMBLA. I guess because of the similar acronym.

And I risk Fletch throwing tomatoes at me by saying this, but I actually think Cage is FINE - GOOD in *Gone In Sixty Seconds*, *National Treasure*, *World Trade Center*, and *Ghost Rider*... ok... I now run for life....

Jason Soto said...

It's been awhile since I seen it but I think Face/Off was pretty cool.

Ah, hear that? That's the sound of me getting banned for life.

Fletch said...

@ Fox - yeah, Gay comes around every now and then. If I recall, I thought it ironic what he said about the LAMB considering his name...but he's a friend.

Ghost Rider?!? Ugh - that looked brutal. 60 seconds? I saw that - typical Bruckheimer trash (though I know some like his crap for some reason). Haven't seen WTC, but at least that's a high-pedigree film and all.

@ Jason - The concept of Face/Off was very cool....until anyone actually saw it. I remember being psyched at the time for it, and I probably enjoyed it the first time, though the filming of the stunts/stuntment bothered me even at the time. As Caitlin will tell you, though, it's a great guilty pleasure in terms of laughing AT it. Hell, it's up there with Bloodsport in terms of unintentional comedy...

Jason Soto said...

I see what you mean. I think I just like the overstylized action stuff with guys walking cool and pulling guns out and stuff. I think that's why I'm looking forward to "Wanted".

I was jokin' about the banned for life thing by the way.

this might be something I should save for your Outlandish Statements feature, but, I LOVE CAGE!!!!!!
RAISING ARIZONA, HONEYMOON IN VEGAS, ADAPTATION, MATCHSTICK MEN!!!! I don't care how many shitty movies he's been in! I love him nonetheless!

I freakin' LOOOOOOOOVE
Nick Cage!! :D

That man is singularly unique, crazy eccentric, and talented.

He's just plain 'The Man', hairplugs and all..

@ Mrs. Fletch

Now, you know there's a double-standard regarding looks in movie industry.

How many not traditionally attractive women have become major box office stars?

Whoopi Goldberg?

And...

Yeah, it sucks, but Hollywood is hella' sexist.

The best thing Cage has done in years was his brilliant turn as Fu Manchu in Rob Zombie's faux GRINDHOUSE trailer. I was hoping that doing that bit would "inspire" Cage to try more edgier fare. Guess not.

Fletch said...

@ JD - you're damn straight. That was indeed a killer cameo.

@ DC Girl - two words: Kathy Bates. Though I'm loosely using the term "major box office star." Though, one could argue that there are only about 3 women that fit that description (outside of Bollywood, perhaps), so the pool is kinda shallow.

@ Joseph - you keep your Nic Cage and your Temple of Doom. I'll keep my sanity. ;) That said, all of the movies that you mention are good, and rank amongst his best performances.

Nic Cage said...

Hold on to your butts, this one is going to be a wild ride! I actually manage to cut a mans arm of with a trolling motor.

This may not even be a rental.

Tony Tanti said...

Great post, Nick Cage is brutal.

My thoughts for dcmoviegirl, Hollywood is sexist but not the way you're suggesting. The sexism in Hollywood is shown by the lack of strong part written for women. Average looking female actors have the same issues average looking men do, it's not a sexism thing it's a Hollywood beauty obsession thing.

Honestly, do you think John Goodman read for the part of Danny Ocean or Phillip Seymour Hoffman was asked to audition for Iron Man?

Fletch said...

Good points, Tony.

I'd heard that, originally, Ocean's Thirteen cast member David Paymer was up for the role of Danny Ocean in Eleven. Imagine how much more successful the series might have been...

I guess Dan Hedaya was busy?

Naw - he was gonna play Rusty until Clooney signed on and pushed him out in favor of good buddy Brad.
