Alicia Silverstone
Comments: Neither one of today's Ladies had all that big of a film career in the 90s (or, well, beyond), but each was in our collective consciousness for pretty much the duration. Silverstone gained fame thanks largely to three mid-90s Aerosmith videos - namely, "Cryin'," "Crazy," and "Amazing," all of which she played the lead in. That combined with her earlier turn in the Fatal Attraction-lite The Crush nabbed her the lead role in Amy Heckerling's Clueless, a surprise hit at the time that launched her to stardom...which she never capitalized on.
90s Highlights: The Crush, Clueless, Blast From the Past
Neve Campbell
Comments: Meanwhile, Campbell has comparatively has a much more successful film career, but has never fully been able to escape two roles: first, her starring role as Julia Salinger on TV's Party of Five, and second, as Sydney Prescott in the Scream series - a well she's returning to in the fourth installment, due next week.

14 people have chosen wisely: on "Ladies of the 90s Tournament - Round 1: Alicia Silverstone (3) vs. Neve Campbell (6)"
This only reminds of the question of the century: WTF happened to Alicia Silverstone? ;)
In any case, I voted Neve Campbell
I had to vote against Alicia Silverstone. A friend of mine met her a while back and wanted a quick picture with her. Alicia just sort of manhandled my friend using her vegan super powers. Every time my friend tells the story, she demonstrates what happened. It's like being manhandled by proxy.
SMG taking out Winona Ryder for a 90s film tourney is just plain wrong. As much as I loved Buffy, Ryder is still more of a 90s film star.
Today I voted for Silverstone b/c Clueless brainwashed me at an early age. But you forgot to mention her superhero turn in Batman and Robin (snark).
@ Castor - Good question. I know she got fat (read: healthy-looking) for a while, and that appeared to scare America off. She also made piss-poor decisions with the roles she took. And I think she might have been on some TV shows earlier in the decade (a thought that IMDb seems to prove). Her comeback is just about due...
@ smacdonn - Conversely, I had to vote for Alicia, even though her filmography minus Clueless is shit and I can't even objectively argue that she's all that better looking than Campbell. Fact is, I had a big-time crush on her in the early-to-mid 90s, and those things can't be forgotten, even if she is a mega-vegan bitch on wheels.
@ Rachel - You're damn right Ryder losing (at least at this stage) is wrong. But unless we want "The Commish," aka me to start overruling these things, we must abide by the votes.
Hey, I could barely justify including The Crush. But that movie rules...in a "it's terrible but I still like it" kind of way. Hell, Cary Elwes is the star!
Looks like Alicia is going to win, why do I always seem to vote for the losers...
I have to admit that I don't really know many of these actresses, they were before my time ;)
Will you be doing a ladies of the 00's next?
Yeah, The Crush and True Crime were both so awesomely bad, and came on cable ALL the time to enjoy. I actually liked Alicia's very shortlived (13 episode) cartoon Braceface in '01, even though I was way out of the demographic at that time.
Clueless dictates I vote for Alicia Silverstone. Plus, I honestly cant name something Neve Campbell was in except Part of Five. Maybe the Screams? Or the I Know What You Did Last Summers?
Uhhh... Neve Campbell? Showgirls? Hello!!!
@ Jack - Even the losers get lucky sometimes. Or at least Tom Petty seems to think so. Then again, you probably don't know who Tom Petty is, so this comment will be awfully unfunny to you.
I'm not planning on doing a 00s tourney any time soon. I think these things need years of separation for reflection. Otherwise, we might include someone like Katherine Heigl and then the world might get thrown off its axis.
@ Rachel - Uh, it's been a while, but I'm pretty certain that True Crime is just plain bad. I watched it way back in 1990-whatever and can't say that I enjoyed it even then, though if I recall correctly, it was the first time I saw Kevin Dillon, which was jarring.
@ Blake - Um, read above - I reference some of her earlier works.
@ Seb - Showgirls? What? You lost me.
Oh shit, son!
I don't know who to vote for! I was like "Oh, Alicia's got it for Clueless alone." But then I saw Neve, and was like "OMG! No wai! Scream is total 90s classic!"
I don't know! Argh!
I'm going Neve, only because I like Scream more than Clueless, even though Clueless is one of those "90s epitome" films.
@Fletch
I have no idea who Tom Petty is...
Is Katherine Heigl really that bad? I have never seen her in anything.
@Jack - Heigl had one good film, Knocked Up, and let that go to her head. She has made awful film choices ever since.
@CS
I see... well I'm glad I refused to see last years Killers then.
I'll make sure to avoid anything she's done...
Hell with her movies, I'm voting for Alicia based on the Aerosmith videos alone!
