The Films I Saw in 2010

I may have been largely absent for the last two months here, but the End of Year Spectacular waits for no man to get his groove back. What you'll see below is a listing of every film that I saw in the theater in 2010, including a handful of 2009 releases and one movie I haven't even seen yet (but will before the year is over). Reviews were written for, oh, about half of them (I've slacked all year long on that regard) and I've noted which weren't reviewed.

I've also added up or down arrow images to a handful of films. As I'm sure many of you do or did, when I looked back on the films I saw and the ratings I gave, some of them didn't sit well with me. In other words, just because a film earned an "It's in the hole!" rating some months back, that doesn't necessarily mean it'll place in my Top 5 or 10. Additionally, I've marked off those films I saw in 2010 that were officially from 2009 and therefore ineligible for top prizes either at the Academy or here. Damn the nether-world of list-making!

To view a review of any of these film, use the handy dropdown menus in the sidebar - you can search either by rating or by alphabet.

So enjoy this appetizer to the true End of Year Spectacular, which ought to be up either later this week or early next.

I was surprised how little I cared for The White Ribbon.

That's an impressive number! Looking forward to the big spectacular, and future reviews of some of these movies!

Hello! Fletch...
What a nice round-up Of films that you watched or plan to watch...soon!

Unfortunately, I have only watched "Shutter Island." (I received the film "Salt" as a Christmas gift this year.)

I hope that you, your wife, and the baby had a very Merry Christmas and here wishing and hoping you, your family, and friends, have a Happy New Year! too!

Thanks, for sharing!

Your number two are my number two - clearly you are a very smart man. Love the low ranking of White Ribbon as well.

Oh and I just saw "P.P.S I love you more" in the Sequels that will never happen image...I nearly died laughing

Happy New Year!

Glad to see Buried nestled into Whatever. Wasn't crazy about that one either, felt like the only one on the effing PLANET who thought so.

My counterpart at NPF seemed to love it but I haven't seen Buried for myself yet.

Fitz - RE The White Ribbon...me too, man. Me too. Mehhhhh. And Happy New Year to you, too!

Alex - Thank you! I'm looking forward to getting around to the Spectacular! :)

DeeDee - do you just never go the theater, or are our tastes that different? Anyway, a belated Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you, too!

5plitreel - Gracias!

Tom - Clearly. Great minds and all that. By the way, was just listening to you on the Matineecast recently. When you're talking about the film you wish you'd made, you said something about it being from recent years and one of your favorites, and I could have sworn you were gonna say Up. Shocked!

Thanks for the Sequels that Won't Happen love. I really need to make some more of them. They're fun to do but kinda hard to do while at work, and I don't have MS Paint at home. :\ Happy New Year to you as well - you got to it 17 hours before me!

Aiden, Fitz - Hehe, yeah, I wanted to like Buried more, but it was really repetitive and I think would have made for a better short than the full 90 minutes. They did pretty good with the situation but not enough to warrant a higher rating from me. Liked the ballsiness of the ending, though...

2010 for me mostly falls under "Decent fellow". The good films have been pretty good, but man there's just been a lot of good but forgettable stuff in between.

And Alice in Wonderland.

Fletch said...

Andrew - Amen. Looks like it was a Decent Fellow of a year for me, too, judging by the counts alone.

Alice pissed me off from the trailers alone. Burton's a fucking hack anymore.*

* Though I'm still gonna watch it on Netflix. Curiosity will get the better of me.
