TGITDNMAR (7/9/10)

It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.

Easiest TGITDNMAR ever.

Despicable Me
I've seen a few ads, but I'm a bit surprised at just how off the radar this has been for me. I think I've been mentally lumping it in my head with the similarly-themed Megamind (starring Will Ferrell) that comes out later this year. Well, there's also that thing about the little dudes that are a ripoff of the Claw dudes from Toy Story, but I already covered that. What can I say - I'm not opposed to seeing this at some point, but it just doesn't interest me much. Call it Steve Carrell Apathy.

The Girl Who Played with Fire
If you've been keeping up with my reading reports in the States of the Cabins, you'll know that I not only read this, but that it was my favorite of the three books in the Millennium trilogy. Michael Nykvist and Noomi Repace reprise their roles, and this one's sure to contain more action than the first film - it's by far the most thrilling of the three. Not too thrilled with their vision of the giant, though - he reminds me of Paul Bettany in The DaVinci Code, and the less I'm reminded of that film, the better.

Predators
Early word is that this is finally a decent successor to the 1987 classic (hell yeah I said classic) action flick. Having a solid crew of veteran actors sure doesn't hurt; I'm excited to see Brody, Topher Grace, and Justified's splendid Walton Goggins. Actually, I care more about seeing them then the Predators themselves...

Predators was freakin' awesome. I mean, it's pretty predictable (especially Topher Grace's character), but it's still really freakin' awesome.

I'm having a hard time trusting you...you liked Airbender...

I didn't like Airbender. It's totally a bad movie. But I don't think it's as godawful as everybody makes it out to be.

No, you loved it. I read between the lines. :P

Oh yes... and I wanna have M. Night's babies.

Seriously, though... Airbender is one of the most negatively overhyped (if you get my drift) movies of the year. It's certainly terrible on almost all accounts, but people are treating it like it's the worst thing to grace film in existence, and that's a bit ridiculous. And I've seen *far* worse than The Last Airbender.

But I do agree with Noah Antwiler's comment when he states that (paraphrasing) "When only two movies come out your week, and Twilight: Eclipse is the better movie, you know you've done something seriously wrong."
