TGITDNMAR (7/2/10)

It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.

Easiest TGITDNMAR ever.

The Twilight SAGA: Eclipse, The Last Airbender
I don't think there's ever been a week with two new releases that I wanted to see less than these two. Sex and the City 2 paired with whatever is even better than this.
Fletch's Chance of Viewing (in the theater): 0%

Sadly, I will see both. Just not in theaters. MAYBE Airbender!
Nowhere near as bad as SATC2 and Prince of Persia weekend!

You know, from what I've heard, ECLIPSE is not as bad as you'd think. I mean, it's still bad, but, the director change, apparently, brought around some more quality to the franchise. I'll probably see it, if only because writing negative reviews is FUN!!

However, stay far the fuck away from THE LAST AIRBENDER! That is seriously one of the laziest and most inept movies I've ever seen! I thought it was horrendous coming out of the theatre, and then, on a whim, I watched a couple episodes of the cartoon on Netflix, and the movie suddenly became so much worse! The cartoon is really good! The movie is enough to make you never want to see movies again!

Sebastian: Glad to hear you're checking out the show! And if you're only a couple episodes in... just wait. It gets even better. Especially once you get to seasons 2 and 3, the show takes and even darker tone (though keeps its comedy, unlike the film).

Also, yeah... Eclipse really isn't all that bad. Like you said, it isn't great, but it's actually decent. And unlike "Airbender," it's not the fault of the movie's writer or director, but the of the source material itself. It's incredibly ironic how these two movies came out in the same week (bad source material/decent movie... amazing source material/bad movie).

All of you - I've been pretty careful over the years. I don't know if I've ever really said anything damning against the Twilight series outside of the realm of "I have no interest in those movies," and it's because I don't wish to be a hater of something I've not seen. This new one might be exponentially better than the earlier two, but it still holds no appeal to me, and I'd still rather watch the shitty-looking SATC sequel than a bunch of emoting from people that don't act well.

It's OK Fletch... I'm usually an adamant believer in not casting on opinion on something until you've experienced it yourself... but when it comes to Twilight, I let it slide :P . I mean, I've read the books and seen the movies, but I don't fault anybody else who hates it without having experienced it. It needs to be hated.

Bad week at the movies for me. I have no interest in either one of these.

I will probably this movie someday when it's on DVD. I fully expect more of the same: moping, sulking, shirtless Jacob, sparkling Edward who makes you want to stab yourself in the neck every time he says something, more moping, more sulking...

Nick said...

Castor: Yup... pretty much. Just add more action, and you've pretty much got it down.

Is it just me, or does it seem like this entire summer is made up of "bad weeks"? Nah, I know Toy Story was great (or will be, for me) and Inception will be awesome, but it's like July already...

yeah, there is a line and sometimes there is no way I can bring myself to cross over that line. I couldn't sleep well knowing I paid money to see Last Airbender or the new Twilight film (I'm not a 14 year old girl for Christ's sake). I feel bad enough that I paid for Grown Ups and it was beyond dreadful. Mostly crap out there all summer season...

Darren - it's not just you. This summer has been full of disappointments, never-weres, and non-starters. Not a whole lot of memorable films in the bunch.

Peter - true, true. There aren't even a lot of indies coming out, or maybe I've just seen all the ones that have made it here that I have interest in. Scanning the list of flicks at the theaters is a depressing act right now.
