Happy St Patty’s Day all, hope everyone is able to get out for some green beer tonight. So, how bout the latest Lost episode eh? Pretty par for the course it seemed, by now I’ve pretty much accepted the flash sideways aren’t going to change, and that the producers are dead set on wasting half of their final season telling a completely unrelated story. They’ve become utterly predictable as well, I mean everyone knew that Sawyer was a cop from the get-go, it was obvious the red head would turn out to be Charlotte, we knew it was Kate running from the cops, I don’t know why they waste our time with these slow reveals, like having Kate’s face covered as she ran away for a minute or two. The on island stuff is turning out to be pretty solid this season, hopefully they will have the time and structure to bring us to an enjoyable conclusion. Here are some other observations…
- Obvious plotholes in the flash sideways, just for giggles:
- Obvious plotholes in the flash sideways, just for giggles:
1. Pretty big stretch that Sawyer and everyone else whose life is completely different in this bizarre world would all be on the exact same flight from Austrailia to LAX.
2. Can Miles still talk to the dead? And why is his life so different?
3. Was that the same Charlotte, she looked much hotter?
4. Are cops really allowed to shag suspects?
5. Why did allegedly good cop Sawyer let fugitive Kate escape in LAX?
6. At least Sawyer is still a huge “Little House” fan in this reality, otherwise I’d feel like I didn’t know him at all…
- On island it looks like we are sticking with the frustrating one week Team Jacob, one week team Locke switchoff, I think last time we left Sawyer he was hanging out in the candidate cave with Locke, now it looks like they are bosom buddies, I enjoy the dark turn Sawyer is taking on Island, if the series doesn’t end with him or Jack killing each other I will be pretty disappointed.
- That was funny when Sawyer sniffed out the Widmore spy, and said “You’re good, but you’re not that good,” because I was just thinking she was a terrible actress, whether this was because her character was supposed to be a bad liar or the actual actress playing the character just wasn’t very talented, I lean toward the latter
- Good to have old Chaz Widmore back in the mix, some allusions to his mysterious past and unquenchable Island love were made in this episode, hopefully these mysteries will be cleared up, the only theory I could muster is he wants Richard Alpertian immortality. Here’s a fella who’s ass loaded and hates everything, even his own daughter and son, and all he cares is taking over the Island in his final years of life. Geez fella, relax, kick back drink some Maccutheon…
- Sawyer’s plan seems pretty ill-conceived, but at least it looks there should be quite a bit of action in two weeks, next week it looks like we’re back on Team Jacob and we might finally find out what Richie Alpert’s agenda is. Too bad Rich can’t have a flashsideways since he blew up in an H-bomb explosion at the time-split point. His bizarre self would actually be interesting since he’d remember the Oceanic crew from their time jumping adventures, knowing the producers they’d do something bizarre and probably have him running a florist shop married to Shannon, and having an adopted kid who turned out to be Walt. Until next week…
6 people have chosen wisely: on "Lost - Sawyer Episode"
This week's episode just screamed filler to me. A bunch of events you figured were happening, and nothing really developed from any of them.
I'm excited for a Richard Alpert week next week though! Hopefully it's not a rehash of everything they told us last week. Also, on IMDB Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond) loses his (credit only) tag after 3 more episodes so I'm cheering for another Desmond sighting coming soon!
This episode...
I can't say it was terrible, but nothing happened, really, especially on-island. We already knew Widmore was there, so the charade of having that chick from Singles pretend to be someone else was a huge waste of time. We all know Sawyer is out for only himself, so the back and forth was a waste of time.
The off-island stuff was, yes, expected, but still kinda fun to see. Yes, that was the same Charlotte - something about makeup and better hair and being half naked indeed had her looking less Predator-ish.
I liked how they showed us Miles as his partner off-island, then had Sawyer asking what happened to Miles at the Temple on-island, as if he really cares or had cared much about him before. I mean, I know they were Dharma buddies and all, but Miles seems to be used only when it's in reference to anyone else needing him. Minor quibble, I know.
The Locke smacking Claire around bit was hilarious. She needed that talking to big time...
As soon as I saw Charlotte turn around I screamed "The Predator is back! Ahhhh!" and thought of you Fletch.
They need to just flash the screen with the Predator vision for 2 seconds. It would make my day.
I actually enjoyed the flash sideways this week more than the on-island stuff. I kept wanting to go back to Sawyer and Miles as cops (in fact, wouldn't that be a great spin-off show?).
As for the "cops shagging suspects" complaint... I believe if they go undercover, as Sawyer was, they're allowed to... well... go under covers (old school puns, ftw).
I wish they'd just hurry up and kill Jack
Your fifth point plagued me the ENTIRE episode! Why would he help her escape??? Perhaps it's something they'll address.
One thing that I was slow to realize in the episode was that their lives are different because Jacob never visited them and gave them their "gift". I can't really recall at what moment he touched Kate, and why her life isn't any different than it was... but perhaps Miles can't talk to spirits because he wasn't touched, and Sawyer is the cop because he was never given that pen etc so on so forth.
The alternate reality doesn't bother me much, but you're right, it seems like an odd choice for such a limited amount of time left to wrap this massive universe up.
Here's hoping for the best...
