TGITDNMAR (7/3/09)

It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.

This 4th of July, I will be declaring my independence from movie theaters. I feel so empowered.

Public Enemies
Michael Mann's Butt Score notwithstanding (see next post below), many are saying what I've been thinking about this movie for some time: oh look, Mann made Heat: 1930s Style. And while that shouldn't be a slight against it - after all, Heat is a great flick - for some reason, it's a major turnoff here.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
And yet, we were desperate enough to see this a few days ago. So much for talking bad about Public Enemies. I'll pin this tail on Mrs. Fletch - we'd seen the prior two installments, and she's smitten with talking animals, extinct or otherwise. Sure, let's go with that excuse...
Fletch's Chance of Viewing: 100%

Happy 4th of July (Americans)! To the rest of you, happy Saturday.

3 people have chosen wisely: on "TGITDNMAR (7/3/09)"

You turn down an original film directed by Michael Mann and starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in favor of the second sequel to a movie about talking prehistoric animals?

I'm honestly shocked.

Did you at least see it in 3D? (And was it worth it? The movie and/or 3D?)

I'm a huge fan of Mann as well, not to mention Bale and Depp, but something about this movie is keeping me from running to theaters as well. Maybe the plot and story of Dillinger has just been talked about too much over the years. Either way......DVD release for myself.

The Ice Age films have been terrible from my point of view, but it appears a lot of people are getting excited about this new addition. What exactly is the appeal? What is new about it that Dreamworks is bringing to the table? I doubt much.

Nick - what can I say? Sometimes, you just aren't in the mood to see a certain film, for whatever reason, from the genre of the the movie to the length to the subject matter. Either way, I've never been all that interested in seeing Enemies.

And no, we didn't see it in 3-D. I can't say that the 3-D REVOLUTION (!) does all that much for me, either. It's kinda neat and all, but not worth going out of your way for, and not worth the extra $$, even if it's only a couple bucks extra.

Heather - I'll probably rehash this in my review, but I feel like the Ice Age flicks are like a less Looney Tunes. The characters are pretty good, the stories are moraled (I think I just made up that word), they're mildly amusing. Nothing terribly lovable or hatable. This one's definitely the worst of the three, but I think the first two are passable, inoffensive (as in, not terrible) kids movies, and the appeal for the adults comes mostly from who they got for vocal talent.
