Public Service Announcement: You go to Big Lots! now

If you're a fan of buying DVDs, especially ones at low low closeout prices (!!), you should head to Big Lots! soon. I happened to go there yesterday looking for some random thing made out of plastic (they have lots of those there) whence I happened upon a large cardboard utopia filled with terrible movies from days gone by.

Spent a good 15-20 minutes perusing the likes of Hooper, New York Minute, and 2-packs with Cobra and Tango & Cash (which I really should have gotten, based off the Brion James post). Alas, I did not get any of those movies. However, I did pick up the threesome below (note: shockingly, I did not see the movie Threesome amongst the choices) for a grand whopping total of $8.00. The first two were three dollars apiece and the third was but two. As a bonus, all were widescreen; keep an eye out for evil Full Frame DVDs lurking out there, like the one they had for Dave Chappelle's Block Party.

Awesomeness. If you have a Big Lots! in your metropolis or village, get there fast. Well, maybe you don't have to go that fast - after all, I think much of your competition is old people and/or other people with bad knees.

Big Lots is a really great, random store. There aren't nearly enough of them around. I like to get cheap crackers there sometimes. And Christmas lights.

Fletch, you've been missing out!! They've had DVD sales like this for a year or so. I blogged about it six months ago.

They continually update the selection, adding titles every week, enough that you have to go to the store pretty much weekly to see what new titles are in. All the major DVD message boards have threads devoted to the new titles found in the store.

I've been to two different stores in the past week, usually stopping by once a month.

Great store for DVD fans.

But nobody reads your site, Moviezzzzzzzzzzzz.

Just kidding.

Well not really. I don't, but I'm sure others do.

Regardless, Swimming with Sharks is a great, great find. I might stop by on my way to Bernie's in Fullerton tonight. Where I am performing in front of a sold out crowd.

Hastings has great selections, as well. They've had a "buy 1 used DVD get another for $1" for a long time. And they have bargain bins, as well.

We have a Big Lots in Fullerton. I always feel like I must tick other customers off because I usually pick clean all the rare quality stuff.

You skipped out on Cobra?

Apologize to the movie gods.

Is Cobra the one where Stallone's license plate is "Awesome" or am I way off?

Daniel - Mrs. Fletch is afraid to buy food from Big Lots! You'd think it was in Mexico or something. She didn't even want to buy bottled water...

Moviezzz - many thanks for the additional info. I shall have to become a more regular consumer of Bi Lots!, even though doing so kind of pains me.

THN - I couldn't agree more. I love Swimming w/ Sharks and hadn't seen it in forever. If you're a movie geek and have not, you should. Great Hollywood insider flick, and it's awesome to see Benicio del Toro pre-Usual Suspects acting more normal than you've ever seen him before...

David - I would hope for nothing less.

Paul - I've actually not seen Cobra. Never heard all that much about it one way or another. Shame on me?

Afraid to buy food there?! Tell her it's totally fine. I only found six cockroaches in my last box of Triscuits.

No, but honestly it's not lesser-quality food at all. I'm almost positive they receive it as excess inventory from other grocery stores or big box chains. It might not be fresh from the factory, but hey, cheap can taste good, too. ;-P

Yes, shame on you for not seeing Cobra! It's a classic Stallone film plus 'That Guy' who should be a 'FF-UN' Brian Thompson is the villain. Cobra rests proudly on my DVD shelf...so does Hooper (though it doesn't rest as proudly).
