Tuesday's Twelve Tags #17

Last week's winner: Justin yet again, getting one tag and the theme for 7 total points.
The theme: Each film takes place in and/or contains a fictional country.

Here's the new dozen. The rules are simple: I'm going to give you a dozen taglines, all you have to do is name as many flicks that they belong to as you can. Try to resist the Google. Get the most and you win. There will always be a theme, though it's worth will vary according to how difficult I think it is. This week's theme is worth 5 points.

1. Girls like me don't make invitations like this to just anyone!
2. Lies. Betrayal. Sacrifice. How far will you take it?
3. What happens when make-believe believes it's real?
4. He was a rock they broke themselves against however much he tried to protect them
5. ... look closer
6. Some Sacrifices Must Be Made
7. If you want a job done well hire a professional.
8. A bond forged by fire is never broken.
9. No children. No future. No hope.
10. A tale of love. A story of horror.
11. It's Closer Than You Think.
12. Freedom

As you get them right, I'll mark them as gotten and stuff. Good luck.

Looks like I'm not late today!!!

1. Pulp Fiction
2. The Departed
3. Pan's Labyrinth
5. American Beauty
9. Children of Men

So far they are all Oscar nominated movies. . .

Justin Gott said...

I thought 12 might be Braveheart obviously, but now I'm thinking Blood Diamond instead.

8 has to be a firefighter movie. Backdraft? Ladder 49?

11 kills my Oscar nominated theme. . . it's gotta be Armageddon!

Fletch said...

Actually, I'll bet Armageddon was in fact nominated for an Oscar...to bad that's not the theme (that would be waaaaay too boring).

Well, Justin hasn't clinched the victory yet, but he's pretty damn close.

I'm also suspecting that he's a Google-cheater, too...how else to explain why anyone would know either the Armageddon or Blood Diamond taglines? :p

Also, I've seen Pulp Fiction scores of times, own the poster, soundtrack, the whole shebang...and have never, ever, ever heard of that tagline before. Weird.

Justin Gott said...

See I figured Armageddon out just fine on my own - it makes sense!

I'll admit to the "checking of a guess" on Blood Diamond when I went to see what Braveheart was. When it wasn't exact, I thought about other "bondage" style movies and that one came up. I had just looked at the IMDB page of Blood Diamond because it was under your new pull-down menu under Painful and I was pretty shocked, to say the least, so at least there's that. . .

Fletch said...

Fair enough.

Very nice referencing of my uber-brilliant new pull-down menus, too. :)

As for my Blood Diamond review, my big issue with the film can be summed up as such: it left a really bad taste in my mouth. Edward Zwick doesn't make bad movies, per se, but something about the handling of the action felt waaaaaayyy too light for a movie with such a serious subject matter. It would be akin to Schindler's List have a Michael Bay-style action sequence in the middle of it. It felt dirty and wrong, and it pissed me off. You can have "action" in serious dramas, but you better handle it right.

Is the theme the main character gets killed? That's just a wild guess.

Justin Gott said...

I can see that. . .

For number 7, I was thinking - and I might be challenging Fletch's intelligence here, but so be it haha - that isn't there a movie called The Professional? Could they really have put that in the tagline? If not, what about The Transporter (professional driver) or even Hitman?

Nick said...

Damnit, Mikey and Justin! You stole all of my freakin' answers (including theme).

I was gonna say Leon/The Professional or Hitman for number 7. And then my theme guess was gonna be "Each movie has the main character(s) die at the end."

J.D. said...

Ugh, I would've gotten most of those if I got here earlier. Including the theme. *pouts*

I think 10 is The Orphanage though?

Fletch said...

Mikey with the theme. Solid work - I thought it was at least a little harder than that. Guess it should have been a 3-4 pointer.

Justin - no shot at my intelligence. I saw that the tag had "professional" right in there and liked it, hoping it would throw people off, if anything.

Nick - you snooze, you lose.

J.D. - Ditto. Though you do get one point to hang your hat on. Woooo!!

Well, Justin has clinched the victory yet again. Any guesses on the last two flicks? To help even the competition, I'll say that any non-Justin person that gets 'em gets a point each towards next week.

Sorry, Justin. You see what all your winning has made me resort to? ;)

Justin Gott said...

Then I have to defend myself haha

6 I believe to be the much maligned (especially here and rightfully so) wicker man!

Ok a word on the wicker man... (since I kind of have the floor). Movies don't get much worse than this. The unintentional comedy in it is certainly off the charts (nic
Cage punching women. Nic cage in a bear suit. Nic cage period!). And the end?!?! My god! Anyway I think that I could do a really good job as a sub reviewer one day fletch... My wins should count for something! (I'll send you a college paper film review I wrote... I'm getting back into the blogging world in the next week or so!)

Jess said...

4. Legends of the fall....gotta love Brad Pitt!!!

Fletch said...

Hey - you were supposed to leave that one (and number 4) to "non-Justin" people. Since you got that one (and will probably get the other), I'll offer this: first non-Justin person to comment and give me their favorite Fletch line gets two points towards next week.

I'm always up for some assistance (and good writing). If you have any ideas, or just want to write a review for a recent theatrical trip, let me know. That goes for anyone else, too.

And I see that Jess just won the two points before I even posted this comment. Congrats, Jess!

Mikey Filmmaker said...

Yes! Haha. I still didn't win, but I'll take five points.
