Tuesday's Twelve Tags #8

Calamity, questions of integrity and an interrogation scene too intense for most any Law & Order episode were the highlights of last week's 12 Tags. In the end, Jason maybe/possibly/definitely did or did not use the Google as an aid in getting 8 points and the win.
Though you might have known all that and didn't even care. What you want to know is: what was the mysterious theme that tied the 12 films (namely, Bewitched, Rocky Balboa, Space Cowboys, Irreconcilable Differences, Wall Street, Mrs. Doubtfire, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Havana. License to Drive, Casper, The Polar Express, and Dream a Little Dream)?

Ready? Here it is: there is none.

No, I'm just kidding. That would be beyond cruel, if not spiteful. The theme is that they all feature a song from Frank Sinatra on their soundtrack. Told you it was tough (but not impossible). Brownie points to Shane for tossing out a number of creative guesses (movies where people have fruit thrown at them or something, movies where people get sick in a vehicle, etc.).

Here's the new dozen. The rules are simple: - I'm going to give you a dozen taglines, all you have to do is name as many flicks that they belong to as you can. Get the most and you win. Sometimes there might be a theme, sometimes not. There will now always be a theme, though it's worth will vary according to how difficult I think it is. This week's theme is attainable, but I think I might stump y'all again, so it's worth 8 points.

Good luck.

1. This time you can't change the channel.
2. He's the prime suspect in a terrifying mystery. The police are after him and so is the murderer.
3. Have you flirted yet?
4. This Christmas, Santa's Got A Brand New Bag
5. Make your own rules.
6. A Comedy about Life, Love, Airplanes and Other Bumpy Rides.
7. Love is a game. Easy to start. Hard to finish.
8. This October, fall in love with fate.
9. Based on a True Story.
10. What one loves about life are the things that fade.
11. It's a tough job but somebody's got to do it!
12. The story of the extraordinary people who changed our world.

As you get them right, I'll mark them as gotten and stuff. Good luck. No hints.

04. Jackie Brown!

That's all I could get. #9 just sounds like a trick question.

1. Freddie Got Fingered
4. Jackie Brown
6. Pushing Tin
11. Stakeout

Nick said...

Oh, and...

5. Varsity Blues.

Nick said...

To triple post here, I'm gonna go ahead and guess the theme has something to do with strippers.

Fletch said...

J.D. - 1 for 1. As for number 9...yeah, I guess it is. Though if someone gets the theme, they might be able to get it. But it's mostly a trick.

Nick - All winners...except for the theme. :)

Nick said...

Wow... how the hell did I not get Nightwatch? I even just WATCHED the movie a few weeks ago.

Jess said...

#3 - Flirting with Disaster

#12 Fat Man and Little Boy
#10 Heaven's Gate
#8 Bounce
#2 Nightwatch

Those are all I've even heard of.

#9: The Strangers

I have been working the past few Tuesdays in the morning and I have missed my favorite game (and the one that I usually dominate). . .

Oh well. . .

7 is Singles. I'll work on the theme. . .

Jason Soto said...

Ah, see the ones I knew were posted already. And to prove my reputation I WILL NOT Google the others. The only one I'm pretty sure on is number 9 being Fargo, which I see was guessed already.

12 could be Crash but I doubt it.

As for the theme, I'm gonna go with something having to do with food (cheese sandwiches in Freddy Got Fingered, the whipped cream scene in Varsity Blues, etc.) I dunno.
-Jason

Fletch said...

Jason - you will not Google the others? They were already guessed! ;)

Ok, all have been gotten except number 9. I don't have my answer sheet with me at home, and I don't remember what it is, but it's not Fargo.

No dice on the theme guesses just yet, though this time I will give a hint: it has something to do with the cast members.

Unknown said...

They all have someone that was in an episode of Star Trek.

Nick said...

Theme guesses:

1) Every movie has an actor/actress that has worked in television.

2) An actor/actress in each movie has been in a 'teen/high school' movie.

3) Actors/actresses can be found in more than one of these films.

4) Each film has a former child actor/actress.

Fletch said...

Good guesses all. Except, of course, for Nick's third. :\ ;)

Getting warm with that 4th guess, though, Nick...

I have no guess on the theme as of yet. Just wanted to comment on the theme of the previous one. I was so close actually at one point to having it. I was just starting to look at the soundtracks of those movies while at work. I had checked the first one and was on the second one when I had to stop for some work related thing. Then I completely forgot to go back and finish looking at the soundtracks. Kicking myself now for that short term memory.

Done whining.

Nick said...

Ah ha!

9 is 'Monster'.

Still working on that theme, though.

Fletch said...

Your whining is permitted, Shane. I'm so glad your work stepped in and left you unable to get it. ;)

Nick - nope, it's not Monster.

I tell ya what - since it was cruel to put that tagline in there, I'm just gonna tell you guys what #9 is in the hopes that maybe it helps you get the theme:

It's Blow.

Go.

Unknown said...

They all feature drug addicts or people who have been to rehab or prison.

Nick said...

I *almost* had a good one going where each movie had an actor/actress that had starred in a superhero film, but that barely missed the mark.

There's another odd coincidence I'm noticing that at least one of the actors/actresses in each movie have some sort of connection to Johnny Depp at some time in his career.

But I can't think of anything else that's close to 'child actors' than saying what I did... hmph.

Nick said...

And your 'Blow' revelation only adds to my 'Depp' theory.

Fletch said...

Dreamrot - see above note - it has nothing to do with the plot of the movie.

I ain't givin' no mo hints. I think it's relatively easy with the ones I already gave.

Unknown said...

Perhaps I misphrased it, but I wasn't referring to the movies. I meant the actors in it.

And since it was really more than one guess rolled into one...

1) They all have an actor/actress who did time

or

2) They all have an actor/actress who was addicted to drugs/went to rehab

Nick said...

Every movie has an actor/actress connected to Corey Feldman?

Jason Soto said...

It's either movies featuring somebody making a come back after being absent in movies for awhile

or

Having something to do with drugs.
-Jason

Nick said...

Or even somebody making a comeback after being absent for a while due to drugs.

Fletch said...

Nope - y'all are getting cold. Go back to Nick's guess that I said was warm and tread that ground.

Or maybe I'll just stump you all again...

Jason Soto said...

Worked on children shows?
-Jason

Nick said...

Oh, that better not be it... because I was so going to say that, but Fletch only said my 'children' comment was close, not my 'television' guess. And I'd have to get some kind of partial credit, because 'worked on television' covers children's shows.

Fletch said...

Don't worry...that's not it. :P

Okay, just because I don't want the angry masses coming at me with pitchforks and torches, I'm giving you another hint:

There's a certain characteristic that at least one cast member of each film shares with all of the others. As a bonus, I'll even tell you which cast member it is for two of the films: in Flirting with Disaster, it's Ben Stiller, and in Bounce, it's Gwyneth Paltrow.

C'mon, somone - step your game up!

All the movies star somebody that is the child of an already famous actor or actress.

Anonymous said...

Awesome, finally got one.

But there was no way I would have come up with that if it were not for the hints.

Fletch said...

Congrats.

I just wish I could take my own quizzes. I have no idea if I'd get them, but I think I would have gotten this one...

Nick said...

Damn! I knew the answer lied within all of those actors except for Campbell Scott and Emma Roberts. But when I was looking at all the casts for the different films, those were the names that sent up the red flags with me.
