Tuesday's Twelve Tags #5

Well, I promised to get this finished today. It's just before midnight (my time - Arizona), but it's up, damnit. Whether or not you will read this on Tuesday or Wednesday is beside the point. :)

A three-way tie last week resulted in a tie-breaker. I started by challenging the trio to get the as-of-then unanswered Stained Glass Cinema from a few days prior. However, with my hints, Wendymoon was able to get that. Not wanting to push my luck (or the patience) of the three, I offered the win to the next person that commented. So Justin walked away with an earned yet somewhat easy victory. This week - I'm not foreseeing a tie; there will be a theme involved.

Here's the new dozen. The rules are simple: - I'm going to give you a dozen taglines, all you have to do is name as many flicks that they belong to as you can. Get the most and you win. Sometimes there might be a theme, sometimes not. This time...there IS a theme, and if you can guess what it is (I'd say it's relatively easy), I'll award you 3 points.

1. The day they moved in... Beverly Hills moved out.
2. He always wanted to be special... but he never expected this!
3. OH NO! IT'S...
4. . . . pick a side.
5. lie cheat steal rinse repeat
6. He's out to prove he's got nothing to prove
7. This summer expect the unexpected
8. They figured he was a lazy time wasting slacker. They were right.
9. Nothing Is As Simple As Black And White.
10. A comedy of majestic proportions
11. Billy Brown just got out of jail. Now he's going to serve some real time. He's going home.
12. The search for true love begins outside the box

As you get them right, I'll mark them as gotten and stuff. Good luck. No hints.

4 would have to be the underrated The Break Up. . . now it's the theme. . . hmm...

Well... Justin answered all the ones I knew (and how on Earth can you hate the brilliance of Napoleon Dynamite?). Damnit. I finally give up on you posting it for the night, and what do you do? You post it!

But here's my stab at the theme...

The only thing I can think of is that every movie has somebody from the 'outside' coming in and messing things up (Uncle Rico in ND, Uncle Buck, the chinamen in Lebowski, the entire plot of Pleasantville... etc.).

Seriously, how can one hate Napoleon Dynamite? A genius movie if ever there was one. I'm in the middle on Matchstick Men - I love heist/con artist flicks, generally, and it ain't bad but it does have a bit too much Cage for my tastes...

Well, Justin practically got a clean sweep. No more films left and it's 9-3. The theme is out there, but it's only worth three points, so not even J.D. could win with it. Still, I'm curious to see if anyone picks it up.

I am going to guess bowling - I haven't seen every movie, but for the most part I can remember bowling scenes in most of them.

Fletch said...

Steeeeeerrrriiike!! Mark it down, Smokey, er, Kane. Bowling (having a bolwing scene or scenes) is indeed the theme.

Astute readers will recall a particular Fletch's Favored Five from yonder that included no less than three of these flicks. Never forget Fletch's Bowling Theory: Have bowling in film, Make film timeless classic more often than not.

Also make bad grammar, but whatever.

Gah! How could I have not figured that out?

Oh well.

(God, I really suck at your games, Fletch).
