TGITDNMAR (8/15/08)

It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.

No TGITDNMAR last week and now an abbreviated version this week? What the hell, Fletch, really?

Well, I'm headed to the cool mountains of northeastern Arizona in just a few hours (I'll be gone by the time this is posted) and the poll below is taking precedent. Take what you can get and hope for better next week.

Tropic Thunder
I'm dying to see Simple Jack. I'm ready to see Downey. Count me in - this should be crazy retarded.
Fletch's Chance of Viewing (in the theater): 90%

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Resist the urge to give Lucas your money. He has enough, and it ain't like these Star Wars flicks are getting any better.
Fletch's Chance of Viewing: 0%

Mirrors
Don't know much about it...don't care to know much about it. Kiefer. Horror remake. Really, when's the last time you remember reading a review of a horror flick here?
Fletch's Chance of Viewing: 0%

Henry Poole is Here
Saw this already. (Bad) review coming later this weekend. As I neglected to mention in it, the nanny from Babel co-stars here, and is pretty funny.
Fletch's Chance of Viewing: Uh, I guess 100%

Vicky Christina Barcelona
If Cassandra's Dream or Scoop were any indication of future films from the Wood-man, I won't feel bad about missing this or just about any others to come. Though Colin Farrell was pretty good in Cassandra, and Javier Bardem is featured here, which might be reason enough to try it out...
Fletch's Chance of Viewing: 30%

I saw the Star Wars movie today (don't worry, I didn't pay). It was horrible. In my opinion, the worst Star Wars movie outside of Episode 3, but my understanding is that some people actually like Ep. 3. Or maybe they just really like having the high ground.

I like that you put your percentage of seeing it. That's much more clever than just saying, "On a scale of 1-10, I really want to see it, so about an 8."

I completely agree about Vicky Christina Barcelona (and my god, what a bad title). His previous two were bad, although I did enjoy Match Point well enough, despite my strong distaste for either lead. As for Tropic Thunder, for all that is holy, don't see it. It's not nearly as clever as the trailer and viral campaigns would have you believe. All of the best jokes were used in the trailer, and it completely fails to deliver the intelligent parody it promised. Rent Hot Fuzz instead.

It's a bit of an odd week, eh? I will end up seeing The Clone Wars, I can't help it!

It's odd with Vicky Cristina Barcelona, all of the previews I saw didn't market it as a Woody Allen film - I only noticed in the cluster credits at the very end. Bizarre.

Graham - I thought everyone considered Ep 2 the worst of the Star Wars bunch, no? I certainly do. After all, it's the one with the "I hate sand..." line. And yes, I love having the high ground. And imagining Anakin destroying the hopes and dreams of 8-year olds when he murders all the little Jedis.

Thanks, Keyser. One of these days, I ought to go back and see how accurate I am with the chances I give, though I fear it'd be pretty bad. We end up seeing a lot of flicks I give a low %age to out of boredom.

Already own Hot Fuzz and just re-watched it recently. Checked out your TT review. Not kind. Though you do say it's worth the admission price just for the trailers. I'm officially on the fence.

Shannon - resist! Don't see Clone Wars! ;)

To tell you the truth, I've seen no trailers for VCB, though I haven't gone out and looked for any, either.

Fletch: Tropic Thunder is totally worth seeing. It's hilarious (and the action is great). In my opinion, better than Pineapple Express.

I'm very curious to see what you think about Thunder.

Well, now I have to see it...and I gotta go right now and see what you thought, as that comment leads me to believe you've got something juicy to say about it. :)

Fletch, I think the consensus is that 1 and 2 are both worse than 3, I just don't happen to agree with it. Sure, the sand line is bad, but the Padme-Anakin romance in Ep 2 seems positively sophisticated compared to their scenes in 3.

I certainly recommend Tropic Thunder - preferred it to Pineapple.

The Vicki Cristina Barcelona trailers show wayyyyyyyyyyyy to much. Way.to.much. I'm not an Allen fan to begin with but after the trailer I feel like I've actually seen the whole film.

Clone Wars is fricking terrible. But my son loved it. I'm legally having him removed from my family.
