TGITDNMAR (5/23/08)

It's that time again for TGITDNMAR, which (obviously) stands for Thank God It's The Day New Movies Are Released.

This feature just keeps getting shorter and shorter, it seems. To keep things interesting, I'll be adding an element when giving my "chance of viewing," adding an analogy to the percentage given.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I know half of you reading this have already seen this, but let's just pretend you haven't, okay?

This is simultaneously the most anticipated film of the last few years and also the most cringe worthy. The big question: will Spielberg and Ford make a worthy installment to the franchise, or will this be something we attempt to block from our memories for the next twenty years, a la The Phantom Menace and the Matrix sequels?

All I'm hoping for is "not an embarrassment," and from the early review headlines (I won't actually read the reviews just yet), it sounds like it falls into the Lethal Weapon 3 range - a decent addition to the franchise, but nothing really all that memorable. Still, I can't wait to make that decision for myself.
Fletch's Chance of Viewing (in the theater): 100%, or better than the likelihood of The Love Guru bombing.

I've found that my feature is getting shorter and shorter too! It's still fun to do, and easier to pump out that post without doing as much typing :-).

Hope you enjoy Indy!

Was Leathal Weapon 3 the one with the South Africans or Jet Li?

Well, it turned out to be the embarrassment that I was really hoping to avoid. Man, I died a little in the theatre the other night.

I think I'm going to go see Iron Man again instead.

Fletch-

I know we disagreed on TEMPLE, but I still think I should let you know how I felt about this movie...

"Meh."

And for an INDY film, that's really really bad.

I will take you delayed posting of your *Indy 4* review as a sign that you either really LOVED in or really HATED it, and you are crafting either a thesis-like love letter or rant.

or...

... maybe you just haven't seen it yet. :)

Jonathan - sad to hear that. I'll be seeing this Tuesday. Review (hopefully) Wednesday.

I liked it! The boyfriend didn't...could it be chick flick in disguise? Discuss...

I agree.

I was disappointed. I have high expectations from a franchise like the Indy series. As well as from Spielberg and Lucas.

I was happy with the trilogy and so when I heard that they were making a fourth I was cautiously optimistic.

I figured that they wouldn't have risked tainting the previous ones by making more.

So I assumed that they had an amazing script--sadly they didn't.

I used to think of Lucas as a guy who just tried to hard, but now I agree with the 'what-a-blowhard' camp. Lucas is a movie ruiner. He ruins movies.

Simple fix to Shia on vines? DON'T KNOCK HIM OFF THE CAR. Prairie dogs aren't expensive or rare.

I think Lucas feels obligated to use CGI because of all the folks he's got on a permanent payroll to do that stuff.

I really wasn't disappointed in it (with a few scene exceptions). But I guess that's because I didn't go in with super high expectations.

Saw it. Review coming tomorrow methinks.

Let's just say that the rating won't be in the top tier...
